That looks about right. No movie better than the first Star Wars series. Avatar looked a great and had a decent story but it's no Star Wars.
It's not a movie I would buy on DVD and watch over and over again, it's a movie for the theater.

This movie wouldn't port well on DVD or home theater.  It was worth watching on IMAX for the effects but that's it.  On a TV it would be  a cartoon.  The 3D stuff was cool but the story was why bother.

It was a blockbuster designed to make a lot money. Same as the super-hero movies. People going into it expecting a great story, acting and character development need to get a clue.

That said, anyone who thinks the visuals in the Lord of the Rings compare needs to go back and watch that again. They don't hold a candle to what's in Avatar.

I finally watched the movie this past weekend.  I fell asleep.
Not impressed. Visually of course, the story was average at best.

what a damn travest this movie was gay as hell, tried to give it time but after a few days i decided it was just aweful, all this hype about 'breakthrough/best effects evar!!!' bs was just that, honestly i dont know how it was any more impressive than the lord of the rings movies or hell even the fucking 2001 star wars remakes...the characters 'moved' real but still LOOKED like digital cartoons....it was weak as hell all the shitty acting by that douchebag actor who sucks, lame in every concieveable way...just goes to show that nowadays all it takes to make a sucessful movie is Hype...hype it up enough and it will turn a profit no matter how mediocre the actual movie is.

saw it this weekend with 5 friends. 3 of them were sleeping during the movie.
looked great but was way too cheesy, longwinded. especially for in the cinema. hated the voice of that avatar bitch as well.
for me the cinema is for normal length light films like horrors and stuff, legs start to ache sitting in that fucked up position for two and a half hours.
what a waste. was good we smugled in some whiskey to kill the time.
