The problem is that their instinct of survival will eventually kick in, it's biological and for most, unconscious;  even if they have nothing or very few to offer, transmit to their kids, they will have em. This is how Nature works. Even johnny falcon the painter with no education at all , who spends his spare time lifting weights and smoking drugs at past 30 y/o while dreaming about teens, will have kids because he will figure out someday it's his only key to eternity, immortality.

Gregarious instinct is still strong in humans not matter what distance has been put with nature. Smarter people have a deeper understanding of what makes an individual, not simply buying the "individualism" that is sold right now in magazines like they sell toilet paper. Having a kid nowadays is a task, a commitment for twenty+ years. My lifestyle has changed completely since i became a father. Good thing I was prettymuch prepared for it. I wasn't as prepared to understand the immediate repercussions on my couple though. But I'm trying now harder and it's working. Just need to set priorities. "Shopping" is not a concept that applies to parenthood.

My wife-to-be's brother has a 5 year old I want to throw against the wall and stomp on until the blood is drained into the carpet and bones a pulpy grey mess. Then again, a friend of ours have two kids (6 and 3) I'd adopt right now and raise them as my own. The kids are a reflection of their parents, and parents these days are mostly fucking morons. I hope I do a better job

Children are the physical, biological, and psychological sum of what their parents were and are.  This can be either MODIFIED or REINFORCED by education.
Parents who keep  improving themselves on a daily basis will teach their kids to improve themselves on a daily basis.

Most parents have quit their duties. They try to feel good about themselves by saying that kids are only kids, that they need to be respected and treated like adults would though (strange conflict there), that they have their right to choose this or that. But kids are not that way, they reproduce what they see and most of them they are just dead anxious to be around parents who have no ability to make decisions. Kids need to be relieved of the stress of choosing things that only grown ups can choose. That's how they learn: learn to obey to learn to make decisions later on.

But you might repair, improve what was broken, if you have enough "balls" - brains - to do it, you can become a father and learn how to be a good one. Nothing is written in stone. But obviously you have to improve yourself before pretending to be able to raise kids. Or you will live vicarously thru them, and hope they will do what you hadnt the balls to do with your own existence, if you dont quit the responsabilites in the meanwhile.

there are people with tons of money and who consider that is the only requirement to be allowed to have kids. Yet spawn anxious and depressed kids who want to kill themselves once they reach their teenage years. So money isnt the only factor either.

C'mon, Johnny, we all know how this goes. You'll fall for a girl with a great ass as deep as she is shallow that you will impregnate by mistake and she'll give you a beautiful speech about paenthood and you two growing up and growing old together. Then she'll drop you flat right after the kid's first Bday (I'd say a girl BTW) with the kid. You'll go crazy at first then become once of those overprotective single dads that will prevent his child to do all the things he's done himself. Insisting that she get a great education, a good job, etc....And she'll come visit every sunday when you'll turn old and grey even though she'll get occasionaly tired of your recent political views (for exemple saying Coach is a communist cockroach).

well what mortalcoil is saying here, which is absolutely true, is that obviously, the woman ALSO has to be as smart as the man. Takes two to make one.

But here we re facing another question: how to select the correct partner?  Especially when men are conditionned to  just look at the physical traits and dont see the importance of psychological traits in women -which are fundamental to keep a stable, healthy and improving couple relationship, but also to raise children in a healthy environment.

How someone who's dumb, can select someone who's smart as a life partner? why would someone smart fall for someone who's dumb?
