haha nah, my advice is to not be one of those nuts with a silo full of supplies in your yard, walking around with a rifle talking about the end of days.

rather, just live a happy life, and keep a little extra on hand should anything ever happen.

Hell, living in FL, we have a few hurricane scares every year.  Just keeping a little food and water onhand (enough for a week or two) means I'm not spending a whole day in line at walmart, fighting with idiots for a few gallons of water.

I remember sitting in a flooded trailer park with no power for a week after hurricane charley hit.  living on doritoes and pepsi for a week, playing cards and just hanging out with the rifle by the side nodding at the vagrants and wanderers who passed thru.  Those 8 gallons of water that had been sitting in the cabinet forever came in quite handy.

Hysterical.

Is it black powder?  If so, you may not need to.

If it is a revolver firing normal ammo and you have a question, do some research first on the internet before you call the cops.

What I would do is call another county from someone elses phone and ask questions suiting your situation.  You may need to show a copy of a will or a letter from an executor auhorizibg you to take possession of it and then register it.

If you want to justkeep it in a safe, dont bother.  If you want to go to a gun range, than you should definately find out first.
Its an old Colt Revolver 1872 model.
It looks like this:

I would like to fire it at a range but also was wondering if that devalues it somehow.  Also, do you have to have a gun license or paper work to fire guns at a range?  I`ve never been.

I dont know how NC works.  But here in NYS you have to get a state permit listing your pistols on the permit.

Most ranges in NYS wont let you in the door unless you have the permit.

You have to check.  Call a local range and they might give some good advice before calling the cops.

Here you go TA...you live in NC correct?

You guys are pretty free as far as firearms are concerned.

That is definitely a piece of old beauty that you have there.

1.  It should have a serial number on it...that should help you in your search.

2.  You don't have to have a liscense to shoot at a range.  Just the range fees of the business and ammo of course too.

3. Firing a weapon doesn't devalue it.  You should look for a collector or a restorative expert to see what the value of that fine piece of art is worth.

There are threads there with very knowledgeable people there that can lead you in the best direction with something that old.

KING, N.C. -- Authorities lifted a curfew and alcohol restrictions in King on Sunday, but said a state of emergency declaration remained in effect until Monday.

LOL

Those North Carolinians are a bunch of pussies! Calling a state of emergency over a little snowfall?!
They should come visit Canada when North Westerlies bring arctic air masses in for a few days,
...and the temperatures drop to minus 40 degrees below... waterpipes break... freezing cars in place... and exposed skin freezes in a matter of seconds... good times.
