While everybody in my neighborhood evacuated I just walked down to the shore with my lap top and camera and waited. Fortunately, I was close enough to my router as the beach is just around 20 yards away for my lap top to work so I gave a moment by moment count down on this thread.

Pellius, What beach were you on?

I never thought of this before but if a huge wave was to hit Waikiki in full force, would it have an adverse affect on the Kaneohe or North Shore side?

Great to hear that all is well.

It's not a public beach. It's just the shoreline where I live. It's not like a tourist can walk through our yard and go fishing and crabbing.

In answer to your question, I would think no. I mean we had some huge ass wave just a few months ago on the North Shore which is about 10 miles from where I am. Up to 30 feet. That's a 60 foot face. It had no effect on Waikiki or that side of the island. A tsunami is different there. It travels through the ocean and literally encircles an island like Hawaii.

I've had exepriences with tsunamis before. You'll know when a big one is coming. The water literally gets sucked out into the ocean. It's like someone just flushed a big toilet and the water just disappears. You got a good twenty minutes (maybe 15) to get at least a mile away before the big wall of water comes roaring in. Where I live it's country so it's easy to get in and out. My truck was right there and I would have just hopped in and head towards the Koolau mountains. I would have just gone to my sisters who is less than a mile away but it's in the mountains and a steep climb and considered a safe zone.
