Making gains with low protein diet?
« on: March 04, 2010, 09:28:10 AM »
I have been diagnosed with a mild kidney condition, which could possibly progress if I continue injesting large amounts of protein (I average 300-350g/ed).  Has anyone been able to continue making gains with less than 200g/day.  I think the docs would like me to get down to less than 100g/ed, but that is probably impossible if I still want to progress.  Any thoughts are welcome.

they told us in nutrition class that a high protein diet is okay as long as you stay hydrated from peeing out the extra nitrogen

i consume around 400 grams a day, does that mean i'll have kidney problems?  ???

You can still make gains on a low protein diet. Supplement with aminos and eat more carbs.

400grams? you could cut that in half, pop 10mg of d-bol a day and make better gains. I think high protein is way overrated. unless of course you just love to eat  :)

I really don’t bother with consistent protein intake.. but some days I’ll eat so much fried chicken or whatever, I couldn’t even begin to guess how many grams of protein I took in.. it would be s c a r y.. If I smoke weed? Shit, I’ll stuff myself - all day.

I think you can, still. I eat about .6g/lb of lean mass, maybe less, but I also eat a fair amount of clean fat and carbs and don't seem to have any problem retaining muscle.

Most of all, shouldn't you be concerned with being healthy?

Of course.. if it was *real* d-bol and if that’s all you were using you would notice a lot. That’s what I use if I tinker around with it.. 10-20mg a day.

I guess it would also come down to how well you respond to the stuff (again, if you're even using a real hormone)... and what your goals are.

Its also *thee* most effective steroid I've ever tried. Its pretty amazing stuff.

Today its such a crap shoot coming across legitimate hormone.. you have morons recommending 50-100mg a day (same with winstrol, 20mg a day works really well).. because whatever they’re using is fake or low grade garbage.

I think when determining your daily protein intake you have to look at certain factors;  Frequency of training, duration of training, your natural recovery ability,  and the amount of times you can realistically sit down and eat a meal.  I don't think Protein is a black and white issue like alot of folks do,  you do need it though.

When I first started, I used to be obsessed with protein intake. But now that I'm a poor doctoral students (Epic student-for-life), I can't afford all that red meat. So, my protein intake has been less, but I still eat the same amount of carbs. I have been able to still make gains.

Vince Goodrum has made solid gains with low protein intake,  he takes all his protein in below his waist through his hind quarters.

you must be a disgusting, narcistic, egoistic pig to consume over 350gr of protein, you wont be a top 3 pro anyway.

No.  All blood tests have always come back fine for kidney tests (creatinine, bun, etc.).  I had to submit a urine specimin for a life insurance policy and I was denied for excess protein in the urine (proteinurea).  Subsequent tests by my doc revealed nothing so I went to a nephrologist, ultimately getting a biopsy done and it revealed that I have focal segmental glomeular sclerosis (FSGS), a condition in which the glomerus are stressed and leaking protein.  It can progress to kidney failure if allowed to go unchecked.  I started on an ACE inhibitor which helped to some extent, but both my nephrologist and general practicioner are concerned with my protein intake and really reading me the riot act.

I am concerned for my health, and want to continue engaging in a bodybuilding-esque lifestyle without it negatively impacting my health to a great degree.

With regards to protein intake, I would say you're alright (as a natural) as long as you take between 30-50 grams every 2-3 hours of the day. Any more than that will just result in expensive faeces.

From experience in eating 400+ grams a day to now sometimes eating 120-150 grams a day, i would say you are wasting a lot.

Just space it out into multiple meals. I feel much better and i am bigger and harder than ever at low protein amounts.

No more than you can show me proof of a single successful competitive bodybuilder (doesn't need to be a pro) that only takes in the RDA of protein each day, which currently is 0.8 grams per kg of bodyweight.

Thanks in advance.

would it matter if we could absorb more than 50 grams?

what matters is not how much the body can absorb, its how much do we need to eat to allow our bodies to grow as fast as possible

our bodies can absorb 100 grams of protein in one meal. it can absorb 200 grams in one meal.

but how much do we need to eat to maximize growth?

bigJ's advice of 30grams every 3 hours is more than enough protein. if you followed the high end of his spectrum, which would be 50 grams every two hours, you would be drastically over consuming protien.
