Squats and Lunges are much better for people with knee problems in a controlled manner meaning no bouncing. They are natural movements.

Why?
i think your going to find it hard to get thick seperation and striations in yoru quads without leg extensions, they are simply the best at isolating the quads, and really seem to boost definition. they dont do much at all for size, maybe a little bti to the tear drop, upper outer top of the quads, but its main effect is to etch in the V muscle in the middle of the quadracep, at least thats what it does for me
Muscles can only shrink, stay the same or get bigger, definition is achieved by lowering bodyfat, hope this helps.

before you start calling people names, learn to back up your quote. I have more use for a leg curl than I do for a leg extension and from an athletic stand point, we will bicep curls for basically 2 reasons...1. To give my athletes a bigger ego and 2. To help keep their elbows healthy.We will do hammer and zottman curls in some of our rotator cuff work.
