Ok, now I understand... it's a good point you made there. I too hate it when dumb people degrade statements of intelligent people... instead of discussing the statement and thinking about it they just laugh about it in order to appear smart themselves... it truly is a sad world we live in....

My point was just that even smart people can be wrong... I don't think that the human brain is capable of seeing the whole truth... I mean it's getting harder and harder to keep up with the scientific papers and progressions... and in order to see the bigger picture and to think about things of the future one would need to study 20 years all sorts of things....

Is a Nuclear Physicist smarter than a Quantum Mechanics know-it-all?

I used to be able to discuss QM with the best of them, but I got dumber lately.

A very good friend of mind held the title "Nuclear Reactor Start-Up Engineer" and did whatever those guys do for over 35 years. I spent many an hour talking with him but he never impressed me as being any smarter than the normal high school/college graduate.

But I always knew I could never start one up unless he was there to show me how.

It's not a matter of merely pushing a button.

Or that they have no clue...usually this is a result of the former.

You think people with that sort of intelligence think or even care about something as trivial as picking up a hot chic in a bar!?!? are you joking...these  guys are forming the basis for how the universe came to be and how it all works together, what do they care if they're a little overweight or don't have a hot trophy wife. Those simple possessions are left for the 'cattle' of the world, the 9-5 construction workers and general laborer's people that couldn't even grasp the concept of grade school physics.

Geneva- City in Switz where CERN is based, including the newly created and highly flawed LHC

LHC- Large Hadron Collider-shit load of billion of $s literally buried in a 40 Km underground circular tunnel where subatomic particules are accelerated to 99.9% of light speed or more and directed to collide with each other, while watched by extra smart detectors that gather terabytes of data per msec

Beam- Composed by the accelerated particles , that goes round and round gaining speed until it collides with beam in opposite direction

there is a hoooge difference between smart people and hard workers...most really smart people i know aren't oblivious to their social dysfunction. NOw they may choose to disregard it...for whatever reason. As for coolness....i doubt smart people r concerned about being cool for the simple reason that they have pretty big egos...and could care less about what others think....just a different prespective

What about the people in their respective fields, do they care about what they think? To garne accolades from them? And many people get big egos from either money, fame, or smarts, or a combo of all three. It's all the same, lack of balance. We start to think we are better than, more deserving than, and then the sloppy slope starts become even more slippier. You've probably seen it yourself.
