is this common for u guys? what is a good paycheck?
A good paycheck depends on where you live. In Manhattan, if you aren't taking home 9k clear a month, you'd be fucked. If you live with the parents and barely have any bills $1120 is fine since it's all yours. When I first started working in the early 90's, I lived at home for 4 years and saved over 25K a year, working a mid 40K a year boring job. I invested the cash for retirement. Almost 20 years later, what money I have has grown out of that initial investment. These days I make about 4K clear a month but it's pretty much gone to bills before I see it. Mortgage or rent, life insurance, house insurance, car insurance, property tax, RESP's for the kids, RRSP's for you, gas, food, clothes, internet, home phone/cell phones, repairs. The list goes on and on. I have no debts, or high interest monthly payments but can understand how so many people are financially stressed. It seems the money is all spoken for.
These days I clear about 1K a week, and don't have near the cash I used to when I was making a measely $17.50 a hour with generous overtime, and living with mom and dad. It all goes to payments (I don't live large at all, driving a 9 year old jeep, and rarely eating out, ect). These days for 2 weeks, I'd say if you have a decent job you're clearing minimum 2k a paycheck. Anything below $1400, or $100 bucks clear each day of the year($700 a week) and you're either depending on investments, a second income (wife/husband, gf/bf) or living real, real cheap.
Good luck. Hopefully you can work smart and enjoy life as opposed to being stuck in the rat race like myself.
