Exactly.  The more consistent you are, the easier it is to know how much to adjust if needed.

I've lost weight slowly, no more than two pounds (of fat) a week.  Protein intake on average is around 105g daily (weight is about 180 right now), I'm stronger in every movement.

A lot of bullshit in that video. And let me guess, his magic whey proteins are going to fix all these metabolic problems, allowing one to increase calories dramatically while losing weight/fat.
I especially liked the part where he used a 19th Century Circus  Photograph of a woman with Lipodystrophy.

You have so much muscle that you could probably shake your dick and burn off 2 lbs.  I can see the Dr. point.  He never indicated that this was the same with muscular people.  You are much more different than a random couch potato.

I think a big point that he's making is being lost by alot of people here.He's saying that you cant pinpoint the exact amount of fat you lose per week by simply saying this week im going to go 1000 calories under maintenance a day in my eating while also burning 500 calories a day cardio per week so Ill be losing 3 pounds of fat a week and if I do this for 10 weeks Ill lose exactly 30 pounds.He's saying it isnt an exact science on pinpointing how much exactly you can lose, which is true.

I'm an amateur, and I was pretty damn accurate.  After calculating my basel energy expenditure, I played with caloric intake until I was losing calories at the rate I desired, and I only needed to re-adjust my intake to keep weight loss consistent about monthly.

You don`t really need to know that.  What would be the point?  If you are in a deficit than you are obviously burning everything you ingested.

Honest questions Adonis, curious of your thoughts here:

1)  0.5 to 1 gram per lb bodyweight is a pretty big range, if you had to narrow it down would you be closer to the 1 gram or the 0.5 gram figure?

2)  You gave a starting point of 2500 calories.  If one was to go extreme and only eat, say 1500 calories per day to speed up the fat loss even if he needs 2800 calories per day to maintain his weight, would the protein requirement at 1500 cals be higher than it would be if one were to stick to 2500 cal or even 2000 calories?

First of all that was Jerry Lewis not William Shatner.

Second, I think people are missing the greater point of what he was saying.  It's not as simple as calories in/calories out.  I think that if people stop and think they will realize they they probably know people who demonstrate this.  There are a lot of variables and Insulin is an important one.

Uh Calorie Reduction or Caloric Expenditure is THE ONLY modus operandi to lose fat.

By counting calories you then know if you need to reduce them in order to facilitate fat loss.

Second he didn't say you don't lose weight from not lowering your calories, he said it wasn't as simple as a calorie being a calorie, other factors were involved.  Sort of like how I told Panda and wavelength, you can store fat while being under your required daily calories depending on how many calories you ate in a setting.

You gotta love how some of you morons will disagree with a respected doctor, but agree with a "some guy" on the internet.

People are missing the point. You have to be in a deficit to lose. Simple as. Stop overcomplicating it with the whole breakdown of what every single god damn maco and micro nutrient does and eat an adequate amount of foods from a wide variety of sources. NATURE sets the limits and boundries of the human physique, not the person. What is it with people and the mentality that they can simply work out loads, eat loads of protein but little else because protein is "magic" and be better off for it. It simply doesn't work that way, you can't alter reality.

I'm pretty sure he said calories have NOTHING to do with how much fat you store and how much you weigh, and that is simply ridiculous. Of course hormones matter in how much muscle you retain, in what pattern you store fat, and etc. Of course it's important to eat adequate protein (cue wavelength). But him showing pics of rodents and people with pathological conditions was ridiculous. Yeah we're all on prednisone.  ::):D

Who cares if you store triglycerides during a snapshot of the day. You are always storing and releasing fat. It's the total daily energy balance that determines the net effect.

I also believe that overall calories are what determine fat loss or fat gain. An optimal protein and carb intake for muscle maintenance and that's it.

Of course a person may have different metabolic rate or a better tolerance for carbs, but the caloric deficit will determine fat loss.
