Not a place for shredded glutes and oiled up men thongs. Its a place train without a machine to trip over.

What is a machine to you? Lots of people claim to hate machines but when you look at their programs they use tons of machines. You don't have any pulley stacks in your gym? No calf machines? No leg press? No hip-belt squat set-up?

Do you think the guys at elitefts and Louie's Westside gym, for example, are morons for selling and promoting the use of machines for athletes?

Drop the tape dot & ladder drills and switch the power racks with some elite racks, add some chains and bands and some Safety Squat, cambered and fat bars + rev hyper and glute ham and you good 2 go!

Bands and chains can be great. But a lot of people who have no business using them use them nowadays because it's hardcore (I guess) and a fad. Like this douchebag trainer:

That is the first time I've seen a bar like that. What is the benefit to it?

I haven't tried it but I think it works your abs and upper back real hard. But for these kids it's useless to get fancy, when they can't even squat 1 plate properly.

Supposedly a safer bar - that is all. Strictly for squats.

Safer how? Lots of powerlifters claim it works you back real hard and that's the reason they use it.

And top powerlifters have used it for deads too, believe it or not.

The Safety Squat Bar has a camber in it that distributes the weight to the midline of your body. This allows you to maintain a more upright stance.

.

The SS bar also works well for JM presses, see that vid, 3:00 in. That fellow's whole Youtube channel is great, even though the intros are long.

Machines I use, pull down, seated row, reverse hyper and once in a great while leg curl but if I use it I pair it up with G/H Raise, 1LRDL, pull throughs, KB swings or anything that will target posterior chain. You will rarely see my clients on a leg press, leg extension or almost anything else that isolates a particular muscle group. What ever they do at Elite or Westside doesn't necessarily mean thats what I do. But remember one thing, the machines they use are only used for supplemental work.

We also use it for athletes with bad shoulders or wrists that have a hard time externally rotating to grab the bar.

So there IS a chance a real hardcore dude might trip over some machine at your gym when heading for the power rack? :D

Everyone uses machines to some degree. :)
