"I had lipo"
« on: May 14, 2010, 12:29:55 PM »
A friend of mine (46) recently admitted to me that he had liposuction to remove fat from around his waist.  I was shocked and disgusted by this news!  He was a varsity soccer player back in high school with a physique that anyone would respect; even in college he was in good shape.  Sure, time takes it toll and sitting behind a desk for twenty years doesn’t help, but there is nothing stopping this guy from hitting the gym and eating right.  I used to mock people who did this sort of thing, but knowing a friend of mine did it truly disgusts me.

Even more disgusting, he had it done in Costa Rica where apparently many Americans now go for rejuvenating vacations; you can have the surgery and convalesce/vacation at the same time in the cosmetic surgery resort.   I checked online and sure enough there are several such cosmetic surgery resorts in Costa Rica.  The point is to save money (CS is much cheaper in Costa Rica) and go away so no one has to see you looking swollen, bruised, etc.  You simply say you went on “vacation” and come back looking rejuvenated/slimmer.  Something stinks about this whole thing.  I’m not as lean as I once was, but I would never do this!  Cosmetic surgery to restore my face after an accident?  Yes.  But this?  No.  >:(

nothing wrong with going under the knife

but, that flying to costa rica to have it done, on "the cheap" I assume, is totally disgusting

with plastic surgery YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

There was a 60 minutes piece on these rejuvenation vacations and the accompanying horror stories...people killed, getting horid infections that required even more surgery, fucked up procedures...why anyone would do that just to save a few bucks is beyond me

Why not just let people do whatever they want, as long as they're not hurting someone else? If you think it's ok to judge your friend's action, then by using the same logic it's ok to judge someone being gay.

It's his body. If he wants to be lazy and get lipo, so be it.

I am not stopping him from doing what he wants nor would I want to.  In fact, he was admitting his lipo to me because he, himself, is uncomfortable with the decision he made… on some level it went against his own values.  No one wants to self identify as lazy, a cheater, or undisciplined.  Incidentally, I didn’t tell him I was disgusted. I merely listened to his “confession.”

Unfortunately for him, and people like him, lipo does not solve the problem because they are still caught up in the lifestyle habits (poor diet, sloth) that generated the fat to begin with. ::)

Only problem is the old habits will continue so these people will back in the same boat after awhile unless an effort to change is established.

sloth.  I never understood it.  Even when I didn't have a job, I was in school full time, reading books, swimming, trying to get laid...

I cannot imagine a life where you spend 5+ hours a night on the couch doing nothing.  It just boggles the mind.

Nothing wrong with lipo. You are removing something that you can do with exercise true but if he has the cash who cares? It is not the same as say breast implants. He isn't totally changing what God gave him, he is simply taking some shit off the sides. WHen he comes back with lip implants or something then be critical IMO.

I totally agree with you.  Plastic surgery in general disgusts me.  It blows my mind how it has become widely accepted.  For the amount of money people spend on plastic surgery, you could feed an entire African village or some other worthy cause.  Oh well...to each his own :-\

The real trouble is that lipo conceals a serious problem.  The fat we see around our waistline is a reflection of the fat building up around our heart and the coronary disease that goes with it.  Unless you lose weight legitimately (good diet and cardiovascular exercise) your heart is still at serious risk.  Now that she gained all the weight back, she has twice as much fat around her heart.  :-[

Why am I not surprised that Methyl Mike would have no objection to lipo?  For those of you who don’t know this is the same guy who, in one thread, insisted he had to get out of Northern California because he led a “Conservative lifestyle” and refused to accept certain lifestyles due to his “morals.”

Dang some mixed feelings here. Some reasons I want to move-

Guns. I dislike californias attempt to deprive me of my right to own firearms. I want guns period. You can not tell me what I can or cannot have nor can you convince me that 10 bullets are less lethal than 30.

Conservative lifestyle- I am not uppity nor a Bible thumper but I refuse to accept certain lifestyles because they are "popular" in todays culture. I am sorry but I have MORALS. Also I dislike Obama and going to college here MY GOD even my fucking professors have told us they voted for him and hope we did! I am sorry but he is SHIT as president and if you can't see that then fuck you. Quit blindly following a liberal politician like a fucking lemming.

Yet in another thread he practically bragged about his decision not to pay the credit card debts he ran up.  When I suggested he pay his debts he said I was being "harsh."  Read his meltdown here http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=309532.0

Apparently his “morals”--which do not require him to pay his debts--approve of the self indulgence and waste characteristic of cosmetic surgery.  So much for living a "conservative lifestyle."  ::)

Probably better you not speak to me about morals considering you shove foreign objects up your ass. Yet here  you sit judging your "friend" because he decided to get some fat sucked off his body? Hmm, which is worse here, doing something disgusting and unnatural or using medical science to enhance ones body and self image. Do you realie you are a shell of a human being or does reality escape you?
