Yes, I remember him. :) He was in the right place at the right time to win a WSM. Not the most talented strongman Holland ever had. I'd say that was Simon Wulfse. Unfortunately his career went nowhere because of his roots... born on the streets and never got rid of them. If he had been a bit more political, less involved in dealing heroin (allegedly ;D) and not afraid of flying, he would have gone very far. Mofo was strong as all hell. Still the only dutchman to ever total 1000 kg @ 125 kg, and this was done over 20 years ago (mid 80s).

Useless trivia: the only PL trophy I kept for longer than a few weeks was the second place trophy I won when competing in a bench meet "against" him. Not much of a competition, as he out-benched me by about 200 Lbs. :o (170 kg raw vs. 245 kg raw)

Cool story man! So did you ever see Mr. Van der Parr in person? If yes, then I'm sure that he must have made a very impressive sight :>

I did visit some strongman contests in those days, and yes, he was an imposing sight. But then again: I'm only 1.79 myself, so I'm used to looking up to people. :D

I competed with Ted in the 1994 WSM. I'm 6'1" and he dwarfed everyone.

Wow man, that's cool :> I'm curious, what were his strengths? Pushing, pulling, loading? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he the 1st Strongman to complete the Hoosafelt Stone lift and carry?

I couldn't tell you his lifts. The year Ted won WSM in Iceland in 1992 Greg Ernst from Canada was the only man to go the full distance with the stone. Ted only went as far as he needed (ahead of Magnus) to win.
