How often do you train abs?
« on: May 16, 2010, 07:21:56 PM »
A long time ago I used to traing my abs like 5 days a week obsessively. And my abs were like baseballs, big full and dense.

Now i'm training them more like any other muscle, just hitting them hard once per week. And it seems like it's not really working as well. I usually just do lots of crunches and sit ups.

So even though working my abs 5 days per week would be considered overtraining by almost anyone, it seemed to give me really good results.

 Wha do you think.

I think that the cleaner you eat, and by adding moderate cardio, and of course pushing the iron, that eventually the stomach fat says "see ya"

I don't think any amount of situps, crunches, etc. will do much of anything without diet being spot on. I see folks in the gym blasting away at abs for hours and getting "0" results. Sadness for them. They expect some kind of miraculous "spot reduction"

I do believe that if you have bodyfat down in the single digits that you can keep new fat accumulation in an area that is considered to be the least active area on a man. That might have some credence to it, but then I would have to question how one gets rid of low back fat...

Full body compound exercises, clean food (mostly) and some aerobic activity will get you some kind of abs.

I try and train them twice a week - upper abs after training back, and lower abs after training legs. Doesn't always work out this way though - depends how trashed I feel after training the respective previous bodyparts.

i agree with you wholeheartedtly.....abs won't come in until the bodyfat is down to around 9-10 percent.....all the ab training in the world won't get them looking good until the fat is down to a minimum.

If you could strip any human being of most all of their bodyfat (regardless of exercise regimens) I think most people would be amazed at what they saw/see... whatever.

Humans with bodyfat in the low single digits are eye-catching regardless of muscle size. This is why a much smaller competitor with extremely low bodyfat levels will often beat a larger competitor with higher bodyfat levels and possibly even better genetic structure.

I think I just got off topic. Oh well. Slap me.

It's true what you're saying - i see skinny little black guys trainin in my gym from time to time and althoguh they don't have much muscle mass, their definition is definitley impressive and they've all got good ab definition and general cuts - it certinly looks more impressive at first glance than looking at your average permabulker.

Ha ha! That's so true. I was sittin at a red light the other day and this young black thug was sittin on his bicycle with all his friends on the corner. I noticed everyone was staring at him (especially the biotches)-- he had his shirt off with his gold medallions and his gold teeth, but his genetics were insane. No homo here, but his abs were perfect and he had cannonball delts... picture perfect. I guarantee he never touched a weight in his life.

I was like "can you imagine if he worked out?" why even bother if you already look like that? None of the white women would have admitted it, but they were wetting their car seats. It makes you envious when you work so hard with your shit genetics and then you see something like that.

Genetics really are everything... take away some bodyfat and you can have damn near perfection for some of those "lucky" few.

I try to keep my bodyfat low year round, but I don't have great genetic structure. Sucks.  :-\

So DyX, where did this happen, 103rd & Vermont in South Central Canada?  Never want to sit too long at a red light, around there, without keeping an eye open to the left side of your car. Keep the fear Bro. Good Luck.

Only when I vomit, about twice every other year or so.
