I find it literally amazing that almost every thread on here devolves into a talk about Palin now. As if everything is OK because Palin exists. It's ridiculous. Who fucking cares about her? I think the far-left spends more time talking and worrying about her than most people on the right do.

The left gets tied in knots about her, because FOR DECADES, they have painted the ultimate 20th/21st century woman, as a bra-burning, pro-choice, career-at-all-costs, feminist.

Palin smashes that vision to pieces. She's professionally accomplished; yet, she's a homemaker. She can bring home the bacon (or moose).....LITERALLY, FROM SCRATCH!!

She's definitely a polarizing figure. People either hate her guts or absolutely adore her.

Bill O'Reilly's been giving Olbermann the "Rodney King" treatment for nearly a decade. Campbell Brown just quit, for getting much the same treatment during her short tenure.

Why do you think liberals keep wailing about the "Fairness Doctrine"? They want to hitch their wagons to shows that actually MAKE A PROFIT, not bleed like a stuck pig.

i spend time worrying about that picture of the naked broad jumping around

You're a Y boarder at heart.  ;D

Bashing Beck and Palin is the way these loons avoid discussing the issues on the merits.

Really does seem to be the case.

youre changing the subject to maddow, billy.

you made the point that 'ratings drop in summer'.

I showed you that his ratings were awesome last summer, and much lower this summer.

your response of "they still kick msnbc's ass" is something I'd expect from a middle schooler who hasn't taken a debate class dude.

Beck's higher ratings last year may have more to do with the genesis of the Tea Party and those town hall meetings, where people were cursing out their congressmen and senators over, what is now ObamaCare.

You have very selective reading there.I will give you the point that I was wrong about the summer ,but if you read my post I also said "there is no election on the horizon".Funny, you missed that. So,the reason of warm weather may have been wrong, but considering the other three networks have plummetted as well,my election reason sure seem to hold up,wouldnt you agree?

You say the reason is that people arent angry at Obama anymore or health care thats why its dropped. But the call for Obama care to be repealed has INCREASED so it would seem your reasoning is flawed as well.

"This thread is really dumb.As the weather heats up,ratings will always drop for news programs. They will ESPECIALLY drop when there isnt an election on the horizon.Beck is on at 5 pm,its warm out, people get home at 5 and instead of watching television they go outside. However, once again, compare his ratings to his rivals. Its not even close."

Now,since this is the post your commenting on,I clearly MADE THE POINT THAT WHILE HIS RATINGS HAVE DROPPED HE IS STILL ABSOLUTELY KILLING every msnbc HOST AT every HOUR OF THE DAY!Do you have a response for that point. It would seem to me if people didnt hate Obama and loved libs their ratings would be going up,not down at a faster rate then Becks.

of course he's killing msnbc.

more repubs watch fox.
more repubs are retired and have time to watch tv more hours.
more young people are dems
more young people prefer idiot sitcomes to cable news.

If ratings actually equated to popular opinion, it would have been Mccain winning by a shitload in 2008.  The avergae repub is MUCH more likely to watch cable news than the average dem.  it's that simple.  Age and interests and available time.

YOU ALWAYS USE THIS ARGUMENT AND ITS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE DUMBEST ONE YOU HAVE.

lETS SEE,msnbc, cnn, cbs, nbc, abc, cnn headline news, the new york times, the la times, the washington post, the ny daily news, pretty much every single newspaper in the country, newsweek, time magazine, etc etc etc vs. FOX.

Yes good point.FOX news vs. all other tv stations, including stuff like MTV and ESPN almost every newspaper in the country, almost all mainstrem magazines in the country and they should have been able to battle all that and have gotten McCain elected.Super thinking, great point.

Now as for your other points, more democrats are unemployed and lazy ass do nothings who have no where to go and watch tv all day and night. So,MSNBC and their hip hosts should easily rule the day.I thought republicans were redneck idiots and democrats were deep thinking people with higher educations. Why would such a bright group of people watch sitcoms?

The bottom line is FOX kicks those other networks ass' because their hosts are a MILLION times better. No one like whinny ass bitches like Mathews spitting all over their tv screens or big fat blowhards like Shultz trying to use his big boy voice to show he is a tough guy or a little fem screaming "he is the worst person in the world" or  that same guy in drag trying to use his/her big boy voice and thinking the deeper he/she speaks the more intelligent he/she sounds.

Mal those are opinion shows.  The news portion on Fox News is reporting, for the most part.  I don't watch the opinion shows that much, but I watch CNN and Fox (and ESPN) every morning.  There really isn't much difference between the two in terms of what they cover.

If you're going to watch opinion shows, you should try Greta and Megyn Kelly on Fox.  They're both very good.

You always say that, and despite their awesome numbers in 2008, the candidates they backed lost miserably.

So argue it if you wish.  But if you refuse to admit their demo is way diff from MSNBC viewers, well, so be it.

I agree with Billy.  Pretty bad argument.  Fox beats CNN and MSNBC because they produce better programming that appeals to a broader group of people.

Just look at all of the CNN news/opinion folks who left and went to Fox.

Who's watching Glenn Beck?
Much like the Depression-era demagogue Father Charles Coughlin, the Fox News personality is promoting a mass movement. Should his bosses be pulling the plug?

For nearly a century, the Anti-Defamation League has stared unflinchingly into the dark corners of America's social psyche -- the places where combustible tendencies such as hatred and paranoia pool and, sometimes, burst into flame.

As a Jewish organization, the ADL's first preoccupation naturally is anti-Semitism, but in the last few decades it has extended its scrutiny to the whole range of bigoted malevolence -- white supremacy, the militia movement, neo-nativism and conspiratorial fantasies in all of their improbable permutations. These days, the organization's research is characterized by the sense of proportion and sobriety that long experience brings.

That makes its recent report on the extremist groups and propagandists that have emerged since President Obama's election -- "Rage Grows In America: Anti-Government Conspiracies" -- particularly notable. For the first time in living memory, the ADL is sounding the alarm about a mainstream media personality: Fox News' Glenn Beck, who also hosts a popular radio show.

The report notes that while "other conservative media hosts, such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, routinely attack Obama and his administration, typically on partisan grounds, they have usually dismissed or refused to give a platform to the conspiracy theorists and anti-government extremists." By contrast, "Beck and his guests have made a habit of demonizing President Obama and promoting conspiracy theories about his administration. ... Beck has even gone so far as to make comparisons between Hitler and Obama."

What gives all of this nonsense an ominous twist is Beck's announcement that he intends to use his TV and radio shows to promote a mass movement that will involve voter registration drives, training in community organizing and a series of regional conventions that will produce a "100-year plan" for America to be read from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to a mass rally Aug. 28.

As Beck wrote on his website, "I know that the bipartisan corruption in Washington that has brought us to this brink and it will not be defeated easily. It will require unconventional thinking and a radical plan to restore our nation to the maximum freedoms we were supposed to have been protecting. ... All of the above will culminate in The Plan, a book that will provide specific policies, principles and, most importantly, action steps that each of us can take to play a role in this Refounding."

Hard times predictably throw up their demagogues. Still, even allowing for the frenetic pace of our wired world's 24-hour news cycle, it's remarkable how quickly the arc of Beck's career has come to resemble that of the Great Depression's uber-demagogue, Father Charles Coughlin. In the months after the crash of '29, Coughlin turned what had been a conventionally religious weekly radio broadcast into a platform for championing the downtrodden working man. He was an early supporter of the New Deal, coining the slogan "Roosevelt or Ruin," but quickly turned on the president for a variety of complex ideological and personal reasons. Coughlin flirted with Huey Long, launched an unsuccessful political party, published a popular newspaper, Social Justice, and even inspired and supported a kind of militia, the Christian Front, some of whose members were arrested by the FBI and charged with plotting a fascist coup.
As the 1930s dragged on, Coughlin, a longtime admirer of Francisco Franco, became virulently anti-Semitic, isolationist and pro-German. He also was extraordinarily popular. At their height, his weekly broadcasts attracted more than 40 million listeners. Still, after he lashed out at German Jews in the wake of Kristallnacht, many major urban radio stations dropped his program. Influential American prelates, the Vatican and prominent Catholic New Dealers had worked for some time to persuade Coughlin's superior, the archbishop of Detroit, to silence him. Shortly before the U.S. entered World War II, a new bishop was installed, and Coughlin was ordered to cease broadcasting. He accepted the clerical discipline and retired into a long life of bitter silence.

It's hard to imagine any contemporary cable system dropping Fox News simply because Beck is an offensively dangerous demagogue -- not with his ratings at least. His new foray into politics, though, presents Rupert Murdoch's network with a profound challenge. Is it willing to become the platform for an extremist political campaign, or will it draw a line as even the authoritarian Catholic Church of the 1940s did? CNN recently parted ways with its resident ranter, Lou Dobbs -- who now confirms he's weighing a presidential bid.

Does Fox see a similar problem with Beck -- and, if not, why?

i like beck a lot.  his radio show is way better than the live show, IMO.

the 'goldline' scandal is silly... media all over him because his advertiser marks up gold 90%... so what.  if ppl are willing ot pay, so be it.  Is it a conflict when he talks about how gold is the only safe investment for 30 minutes... then he runs goldline commercials?  I do not think so.  If you're dumb enough to pay 90% over cost, that's your own fault.  MSNBC shows tampon commericals, same thing right?

The ADL is one of the most racist organisations in the country. Its the same one that said Mel Gibsons PASSION OF THE CHRIST was going to lead to jews getting killed in the street. After a prediction like that they have ZERO credibility.
