...are different for men and women? Anyone here that can answer this question?

I would venture to think its the same with police and fire training. Women dont share the same upper and lower body strength as men.

I know running standards for police testing in connecticut is different. Men are taller, their strides are longer.

I could be wrong though

sounds about right also women as far as I know arent allowed in combat so their duties might be different and require different physical abilities...but i think mom nailed it

i dont think anybody should get special treatment for anything.....if you want the same job, same pay, same respect.....you should be able to pass the same test....if you cant pass the same test as everyone else, then you are far from their equal....man, or woman...

so you would enjoy seeing someone do half as much work as you, but still be able to move their career as far, if not further than your own?

no what pisses me the fuck off, is when in 97 I was the highest scoring female on a municipality test that went to 13 towns..but yet they chose a black female. That shit pisses me off more. I work hard, no doubt about it. No its not far, but women dont have the same strength as men, IMO if they bust their ass yes they should get accepted

yall wanted equal rights, so yall should accept equal treatment......either females can pass the same test as males, or the military can lower the requirements for the males, and give them the female requirements....but as it is....i cant agree with it...

the race thing is another issue though...i have a friend who was valedictorian of Texas A&M a few years ago, and he couldn't get a job interview to save his life.....one day he was filling out a application in front of me, and it had a racial profiling sheet on it.......one question asked his race, and one of the answers was "i would rather not say".....he circled it instead of white like he had been doing, and did so on three other apps.......he had 4 job interviews the next week.....he would have never got them if had kept telling people he was white..

i agree with bench.  If there is a guy that is 5'6 and a girl the same height then they should have the same run time.  That takes size out of it.  But then there is the "guys have more muscle" etc crap. it's excuses.  I also agree that hiring on race is bs.  Hire the best person for the job period.

I agree with Bench on the PRT equality issues and also want to add that in the Navy how well an individual does on the Physical Readiness Test can determine whether or not they get a promotion. I was fortunate in that I was able to maintain high PRT results throughout my tenure but I know alot of young men that were passed over (Passed but not advanced (PNA)) because they did not score as high as some of their female counterparts whom of course did not have the same PRT requirement because they were female. Maybe the Navy is invoking affirmative action in this area, don't know but I think it should be the same requirement across the board. See below for the differences, (FYI requirements are dirfferent for age groups:

MALES:  AGE 20 TO 24 YEARS

PERFORMANCE PERFORMANCE POINTS  CURL-UPS     PUSH-UPS  1.5-MILE-RUN    SWIM

CATEGORY       LEVEL                                                                                   500-YD 450-M
Outstanding     High                   100          105             87             8:30            6:30   6:20

FEMALES:  AGE 20 to 24 YEARS

PERFORMANCE PERFORMANCE POINTS   CURL-UPS    PUSH-UPS   1.5-MILE-RUN     SWIM

CATEGORY       LEVEL                                                                                     500-YD 450-M
OUTSTANDING  High                   100          105             48             9:47             7:15   7:05

Not a huge difference across the board except for "push ups, 1.5 mile run and swimming" but if all other categories are the same (Time in Service, Time in Rank, individual evaluation and written test scores) but the male doesn't score as high as the female on the PRT she will get promoted. Doesn't seem fair to me.

Here is the website I used. http://www.navy-prt.com/index.html you can aslo check the other branches of military I am sure they are all different but probably with the same disparities for PFT requirements.

  • He Sees The Stormy Anger Of The World
There were several studies a few yrs back that compare a woman's muscle fiber and a man's. I believe it was bicep muscle fiber. It showed that the woman's was stronger...the woman's stayed straight whereas th man's curved...indicating that the man's was weaker. The quickest distance between two points is a straight line, not curved. I guess there was a explanation about why men's biceps muscles tend to have the peak more so than women's.

It's the same in all branches.  It's because men and women are simply different.  On balance, men are stronger, run faster, jump higher, etc.  That's why the women use a smaller basketball.  That's the volleyball net is lower for women.  That's why the tee in golf is shorter for women.  That's why in tennis men play best three out of five sets, but women only play best two out of three (but earn the same prize money).  That's why we have separate men's and women's sports.

That said, I don't think there is any greater feat of strength than a woman giving birth to a child.

Hey call it whatever you want.   :)  I saw my wife go through labor four times and was in the delivery room three times.  Childbirth is no joke.  My comment to the doc after one of my kids was born:  "thank God I'm not a woman."
