Take a $60k job and take out about 40% for taxes and health care and you have around $30k to live on or about $2500 per month. Sad

hahaha...NA is the greatest.  and if you try to reduce your tax load to just better your quality of life just taking an extra 50$ home the govt will come after everything you own over it.  but stefi graf can owe the german govt 50$M and keep her other earnings.  Love North America...Land of the In-Debt!

You do realize that most European countries have even higher tax rates, right?

You're talking about trying to reduce tax load (when Americans already pay less taxes than most countries) and then you reference Europe to make your point. Or is it just that you have no idea what you're talking about and think it's alright to apparently incur massive debt and then walk away from it? Either way, you sound like an idiot. ::)

Hey what do you think guys...in the USA how much annual income a family need to have a great, comfortable living?

I know it depends on many things but still I'm curious about the opinions of the American forum members.

These are strarting salaries. In any descent field you start low until you are proven to worth the money. An engineer starting out making about 50 starting out, around 80 by 40 and 120+ in management. Where as in low wage, you start out making 35 making 40 by 40 and 55 as a manager.

Strongly depends on location...

average I would say $100,000-$150,000

then again in New York that's pretty much bottom of the barrell... lower middle class in NY is like $800,000

Where I am in Canada, 50K is also plenty.  Sure, more money is better, but 50K is ample money to live on here.

In So Cal a family of 3-4 would struggle big time on a 100k per year.

That's incredible.  ???

A three story, four bedroom, two bathroom house where I'm from can easily be had for 100K - even in a good location.  I find it incredible how expensive it is elsewhere.

Same in NYC. Same in Boston. San Fran -- etc.

A parking spot just sold in Beacon Hill here in Boston, for 250k. A parking spot.
