Harvey hosts O money meal
Last Updated: 9:38 AM, August 5, 2011

Posted: 2:38 AM, August 5, 2011

A high-powered, intimate, $71,600-a-couple fund-raiser for President Obama hosted by Anna Wintour and Harvey Weinstein will be held at the movie mogul's New York home next week.

The expensive affair -- billed on an invitation obtained by Page Six as a "small dinner and discussion" -- is planned to bring together heavy-hitters from the worlds of fashion, movies and finance at the West Village home of Weinstein and his fashion designer wife, Georgina Chapman, on Thursday. It had been scheduled for July 18 but was postponed because of the debt ceiling debate.

Harvey WeinsteinA source told Page Six the exclusive event has been sold out and raised over $2 million. Among those confirmed to attend are Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin, Lyor Cohen, Tory Burch, Alicia Keys and Quentin Tarantino.

Madonna was also invited, but won't make it Thursday due to "a personal commitment," said her rep.

Last summer, Wintour threw an Obama fund-raiser at her Greenwich Village home for 50 guests, at $30,400 per head, which drew Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Diane von Furstenberg, Andrew Rosen and Andre Balazs. The Vogue editor-in-chief is expected to draw some of the same crowd.

"Anna calls, they come running," said a source. "The fashion people have to contribute" -- which they apparently did despite the market being in free fall this week.

Donors at Weinstein and Wintour's shindig will be forking over $5,000 to the Obama Victory Fund with the rest going to the Democratic National Committee. Another source said the event would be limited to "four tables," giving each high-paying guest some quality time with the president.

An Obama official told us: "The president will travel to New York on Aug. 11 for a fund-raising event. This event was rescheduled from a previously postponed trip earlier in the summer." Reps for Weinstein and Wintour didn't get back to us.

Obama celebrates 50th birthday on day stocks nosedive
By GEOFF EARLE

Last Updated: 10:04 AM, August 5, 2011

WASHINGTON – President Obama celebrated his 50th birthday at the White House last night in celebrity-packed bash where revelers did the electric slide, on a night after Wall Street took steep slide of its own.

"Just left the Presidents birthday party at the White House. Herbie Hancock played, Stevie Wonder sang and yes they did the electric slide. A great night,” tweeted comedian Chris Rock, who was one of the guests last night.

Other celebs ringing in Obama’s birthday on a warm, breezy night in D.C. included actor Tom Hanks, rapper Jay Z, hoopsters Charles Barkley, Grant Hill, and Cowboys great Emmitt Smith, according to Eddie Gehman Kohan, who interviewed guests for his Obama Foodorama blog.

Daughters Sasha and Malia were in attendance, as were longtime friends from Chicago and political big wigs from D.C. including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton – who knows about elaborate presidential birthday bashes from her husband’s big 50th at Madison Square Garden.

Guests dined on chicken, hamburgers and ribs outside in the Rose Garden. Wonder and Hancock performed in the East Room, where Obama encouraged his guests to dance, according to reports.

The partying came a night after Obama held a big bucks birthday fundraiser in Chicago, where Jennifer Hudson belted out “Happy Birthday” and Hancock and the band OK Go performed for paying guests.

The White House kept the event off the official schedule, sensitive to reports about electric sliding while Wall Street churns. The Dow dropped more than 500 points yesterday amid increased worries that the U.S. could be entering a “double-dip” recession.

But Obama has something to celebrate this morning, with a new report showing the economy added 117,000 jobs.

Cost of admission to the next party Obama’s throwing: $71,600
Hot Air ^ | 5 Aug 2011 | Tina Korbe

________________________ _______________

The parties just keep coming. That BBQ spread followed by a star-studded conga line just wasn’t enough. The president’s third party in three days will be an uptown affair, co-hosted by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and the inimitable Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue and inspiration for Meryl Streep’s character in The Devil Wears Prada. In keeping with the high-class crowd, tickets will be a bit pricey. NewsMax reports:

The parties just keep coming for birthday-boy Barack Obama. After a Chicago fund-raiser the night before he turned 50 and a White House party on the big ay, a third event is now planned for New York. This time it is high-powered movie mogul Harvey Weinstein who will host the president at his Big Apple home, reports the New York Post.

And despite being described as “a small dinner and discussion” on the invitation, it will raise $2 million for the president’s reelection campaign and the Democratic National Committee. According to the NYP, the cost per couple to chow down is $71,600.

In a post the day after the president signed the debt ceiling deal into law, I wrote that President Obama actually cared about the Aug. 2 deadline because he wanted to get back to campaigning. (The Daily Caller’s Jonathan Strong suggested my headline was a cheap shot and maybe it was. I apologize if I implied the only reason Obama cared about the Aug. 2 deadline was his campaign, but it has to be acknowledged that fundraising surely factored into his sense of urgency, especially given what we know about the true nature of the Aug. 2 deadline.) Anyway, in that post, I said the Obama campaign “canceled” several fundraisers during the debt ceiling debate — because that was what The Washington Post reported.

Obama main attraction at fundraisers Monday night
By: CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser
Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama turns his attention to campaign politics Monday night, as he headlines two events for the Democratic National Committee and his re-election campaign.
According to the White House schedule, the president first attends a gathering of approximately 140 guests at a private residence in the nation's capital. A DNC official says proceeds from the $15,000 per family gathering will go to the Obama Victory Fund, with the money raised shared by the president's re-election campaign and DNC.

A source with knowledge of the event says it's being held at the home of Don and Katrina Peebles. Don Peebles is a real estate entrepreneur and sits on the Obama campaign's national finance committee.
The president then heads to the St. Regis Hotel to meet with approximately 60 guests. While not a fundraiser, a source says the gathering is a donor outreach event.

Last week Obama was the main attraction at two birthday-themed fundraisers in Chicago. The events were held on the eve of the president's 50th birthday. The fundraisers were Obama's first since the start of the third quarter of fundraising on July 1. His last event prior to the Chicago fundraisers on June 30th was in Philadelphia.

Obama's reelection campaign and the DNC raised a combined $86 million between April and June, blowing past the combined $60 million goal set by both groups at the start of the second quarter. Of the $86 million raised, the campaign said over $47 million went into the coffers of Obama for America and more than $38 million went to the DNC.
