The problem with today's NBA is that teams draft players based on potential, rather than a body of work on the college level. That's why there wasn't a senior drafted in the first round until pick 23. That's absolutely fuckin adsurd and the main reason why the NBA sucks so bad right now. This one year in college shit has got to stop. Too many young, immature shitheads coming into the league. Screw that 20 year old or 2 years removed from high school crap.

On another note, congrats to Greivis Vasquez, senior from the University of Maryland, with being drafted into the 1st round at pick 28. That kid can straight-up ball. Once he develops a consistent outside shot and learns to keep his emotions in check, he will be an outstanding pro. Plays with great enthuisam and love for the game. Looking forward to watching him develop on the pro level. One of greatest Maryland Terps of all time.  8) He ranks up there with Juan Dixon or Len Bias.

5 players drafted in the first round. First time ever. Makes recruiting a breeze.

,Seriously rumored to be 1.9

So what?? They just need a 2.2 in High School and a 16 on a A.C.T and they are in!  8) Qualify and attend classes but sleep through them and then enter the Draft.  8)

That is not what being a "Scholar Athlete" is about. Going to ball out in college is knowing that all you have to do is qualify, persue excellence on the court and go pro.  8)

Yeah, I dont understand all the hype on Wall.  Dude plays with a sense of entitlement.  passed terribly in the NCAAs this year.  Athleticism alone won't get him off the bench if he throws a turnover anytime he gets a little pressure on him.

Cousins is gonna be great in the NBA, will end up being the Rook of year.

never seen a kid that can finish with either hand as wall. Plus hes got a jumpshot.

hes the goods.

I agree, I think Vasquez will do well, but look at what Joe Smith has become...vasquez is gonna have some tough, tough competition...we will see...

Even though Joe Smith didn't end up being a superstar, he's still earning a living on an NBA roster, 15 years later.

Here's why Vasquez will play well on the next level: He's almost 6'7" and will play the point position. He can also pass very well and play great defense. His only weakness is a consistent jump shot.

And therein lies his fatal flaw...he reps the MD program well---inconsistency is their calling card.
He will not improve, unless he really tries, and it didn't really improve at Maryland. Like Jason Williams was shitty at the line, would he have improved had he not had the accident---prolly not. He didn't really when he was at Duke...
That is the problem with the modern day ballers, they lack drive to improve their game, shore up their weaknesses. Tell the truth, I saw no real wonder kids during the draft, nothing to say, "Wow, kids gonna be the shit.", I could be wrong.

Vasquez didn't improve at MD? What are you smoking, dude? The numbers don't lie, Especially in pts. and FT%

Vasquez will prove a lot of doubters wrong on the next level.

No, not really, we have to take in account the strength of schedule and the teams played, graduating seniors and gaining playing time, just posting that doesn't really say much, because his freshman yr and his FG% is .444, his jr yr FT% is .867, but sr yr is .857. Yes on some stats he went up each yr, but as I said, he reps the MD program well.

MD 's program is famous for consistently being inconsistent. They will beat Duke one week and lose to a No name scrub team the next. They have been doing that since I was in high school. Gary Drunkard Williams knows that he can't really pull together a descent disciplined team, but he can pull together a lethal team---kinda like a blind cobra...if it hits you you are dead, but pretty much inconsistent in it's strikes. Gary Williams coaching style is different from say Dean Smith or Coach K---had Vasquez had them, we would not be engaged in this...there would be no doubt in my mind he would be a better Bobby Hurley or be Vasquez---the shit.
No real excellent players have ever come out of Maryland, except for a dead cokehead who was academically unelligible---Len Bias, and he was a never was

Well.....I'm pulling for the kid to do well in the NBA. He plays with a lot of emotion and loves the game of basketball. He's not some mindless, 19 year freshman, one and done drone with 'potential'.

Vasquez was a four year collegiate player whose skills will be NBA-ready. Not sure if Memphis will try to put him at the 2 position with OJ Mayo playing point. Or he'll just play behind Mayo at the 1 off the bench until he plays out his rookie contract.
