Without a legitimate rival organization, White can continue to jerk fighters around and treat them like shit, pay out pennies while accumulating billions, charge outrageous $$$ for PPV events and hold a monopoly over what is an individual-- not team sport.
The NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL= all have tons of television money, revenue sharing amongst the teams, a collective bargaining agreement bw players and owners, minimum league salaries, team salary caps, much longer careers for their players and much higher earning potential etc., etc. etc.-- Not to mention the fact that a midrange MLB, NFL, NBA player makes more than 99.9% of all MMA fighters just based on their salaries. When you throw in endorsements, that .1% becomes 0%.
It is an absolute disgrace that Lesnar became UFC champ with a 3-1 record ( leapfrogging everyone after paying no dues and not being tested), took 6 months off and beat ( which is more like the other guy fainted and Lesnar just layed on top of him-- the fight should have been stopped in round 1 anyway) a game 12-0 opponent for a 6 figure pay day. The game 12-0 opponent took home a lousy $40,000. Which after taxes, paying Greg Jackson, expenses and whatever else, is more like a net gain of 15k. Will anybody complain? Of course not. They don't want to get axed by White. Only guys like Anderson Silva-- who is way too valuable for White to cut, can get away with doing whatever he wants. Everyone else watch out.
Yes White deserves credit for bringing the UFC out of the dungeon and into the mainstream ( which had almost everything to do with inserting basic rules, the collapse of PRIDE and starting TUF + nothing else), but he is not a genius or pioneer by any stretch of the imagination. He is nothing more than a crooked fight promoter with two billionares backing him up. He doesn't answer to anybody and he can do whatever he wants. Somehow, I don't think we will see David Stern insulting basketball players that choose to play in Europe, or the commissioner of the NHL bad mouthing Olympic hockey players from Sweden or Russia that play in their home countries instead of America.
