wrong.  supply and demand dictates the wage earned.  just because the demand increases for the good/service that your company produces, it does NOT give you the right to stick a gun to your employers head and demand more money, knowing that they must cave in because the demand is high.

These assclowns perform generic work that anyone with half a brain can do, so the supply of the labor is virtually infinite, thus they are not entitled to such benefits.

all citizens have the right to choose whether or not they will work.

this includes the right to ask for higher wages, and also the right to discontinue employment with a certain company if wages/working conditions arent satisfactory.

i'll go a step further...minimum wage laws r unconstitutional

if i wanna work for $2/hr..WHO the FUCK is the govt to make it illegal?
You'd have millions of mexicans working for peanuts everywhere. It keeps employers from saying fuck your $20 an hour, Julio will do it for $5.

FUCK UNIONS!

I have first hand experience with unions, on the bad side of them and why they're no longer needed anymore.

In the 1920's and so forth they were needed, as in the case when an employer printed an ad stating 200 people positions were opening, but when 20 people were selected and the others were sent packing, the employer was able to say it was a misprint at the paper. Or having wages be the same for all employees...which started off as a good thing. "Started off" being the operative phrase.

I dealt with unions for 5yrs of my life, and in the end the only people that benefited from the union was 2...the union and the P.O.S. workers they protected.

The story is long and drawn out, but in the end, I was sent packing from my job that I not only excelled and raised the bar throughout the company as to how a position would be performed, but I LOVED that job. Only because the union contract, P.O.S workers and arbitrator, did I lose my well loved job and end up unemployed for 6 months. And it's taken another 8 months to just start chipping away at my debt that had accrued thanks to the aforementioned situation.

So, you trust corporate monopolies to look out for your best interests? You believe that if there were no employee-run system of checks - ever - in commercial enterprise that employers would voluntarily look out for workers' safety, fair compensation and benefits? Do you have any idea the historical role unions have played in all of these things, plus keeping jobs domestic which, after Reagan's union-busting orgy, went bye-bye?

Yes, there is corruption in unions, just as there is corruption in government and in business. But I don't get how any of you commoners here (and I'm one too) can bitch about a system that was created to benefit people just like us and which still at its core does?

Don't you get it? Without unions one more thread of the safety net that keeps you from falling into the gutter is gone. Unions aren't your enemy - multinational conglomerates are. Point your anger in the right direction. Yes, unions need to be fixed, but they're nowhere near as broken as the companies they're fighting every day.

This is the reason the USA and western Europe are recessions, and why their economies will eventually collapse.  Everyone's salary is determined by supply and demand, but these auto worker queers threaten to strike when the demand is high for cars, effectively putting a gun to their employer's head and demanding a raise, despite the fact that their skill set does not command that type of salary.  These f.aggot workers think they are entitled to all sorts of retirement and medical benefits just because they turn a wrench on an assembly line.  This has caused their salaries and benefits to become inflated to artificially high, unsustainable levels.

The Supreme Court should allow Ford, GM and all other car manufacturers to veto all union agreements and tell the workers that if they dont like it, they can fuck right off.  Those companies will have no trouble replacing them with unemployment as high as it is.

NO the problem is with america is that you have corrupt business that will take advantage of its workers because of greed. years ago you could get fired if you called off work to go to your mothers funeral. the unions protect the worker. the problem with the union is that it also protects lazy workers. in a perfect world a company would be fair with its employees and there would be no need for them

the three posts above from old school, lurker and 20 inch were all good points...These people that are blaming unions for everything wrong are very short sighted and being quite naive...in fact if the unions were no more these same people would be pointing the finger at the next supposed reason and so on and so on...it never ends....To claim the USA recession is a direct result of Union work is preposterous and outright slander...

agreed.  however, when the demand for your company's product soars, it does not give you the right to demand a higher wage that is unsustainable, knowing that with the increased demand your employer will have no choice but to cave in.  Virtually sticking a gun to their head.

so you have no problem with GED educated people earning 70k/year with full retirement benefits for turning a wrench on an assembly line?

You're totally out of subject. It's a typical capitalistic argumentation.

Illegal immigration (criminality, social cost), speculation, hedge fund, political corruption are the real problem.
ex: the crisis of 2009 cost is billion dollars.

that's a straw man blanket statement my brother...not accurate to all unions and trades...
however that's not my point...
I was referring to you implying the recession in the USA is a result of the unions (14% of the workforce)which is quite irrational...

trust...white collar fat cats have caused way more financial recessions in this country than all the blue collar union workers combined...

demanding higher wages, whether because of increased demand or any other reason, is always the right of any citizen.

just as the right to refuse paying increased wages is always given to employers.

Getting rid of all the unions is a great idea!  Then let's allow globalization to take its course and severely diminish the US standard of living!

Great idea! Think about it, instead of U.S. companies assembling products in third world countries where they pay workers something like $5 a day they could keep those jobs in the U.S. by paying our brothers and sisters to do that same work for that same wage. Yes, this should work to set our economy straight. -Let the rich get richer and and the poor suckers get poorer. Down with minimum wage! Down with unions!

im a shipyard worker in the uk, my eperience of the union in my country is theyve turned there back on our industries, and to be honest most of us have wrapped our union cards in because of this, as there more intrested in chasing office workers fees etc... but they did get us some essential working conditions and consessions over the years
