I used to say the same thing. But those big brother cameras have caught child killers and child snatchers. So my opinion has changed on that matter.
First off, fuck children.  Second please provide a source for your claims.

Red Light Cameras Help Reduce Accidents
Posted: 11:00 am EST November 17, 2008

APOPKA, Fla. -- Eyewitness News has proof that intersections across Orange County are safer because of red light cameras. In August of 2007, 262 red light runners were caught when the cameras were first installed in Apopka and that number dropped to 35 last month.

Also, accident reports show a 72 percent drop in crashes at Sheeler Avenue and 441, along with a 64 percent drop at Park Avenue.

Police said it frees up officers to focus on crime

"By not having the officers, sometimes five to six running a detail in the afternoon we have our officers out patrolling neighborhoods and business trying to fight crime," said Steven Popp of the Apopka Police Department.

Apopka was the first Central Florida city to install red light cameras and leaders were thinking of installing more. Violators were sent a $125 citation and part of the money goes to operating the cameras.

I'm a reasonable person. If there is empirical evidence that red light cameras do not work, or increase accidents then by all means, remove them. However there is a lot of conflicting information out there about it.

Bottom Line is that they don`t benefit anyone but the state.

Article said 72 percent drop in crashes at one intersection and 64 at another. 262 red light runners were caught when first installed down now to 35. So I don't think the bottom line is all that clear.

Why are you discounting the overwhelming evidence that they cause more harm than not?

I'm not discounting it. My position is that both sides of the argument can provide information to support their side. For every study you provide, there is one that exist that contradicts it. The vendor that sells/provides these cameras has a long list of independant studies to "prove" they work. Personally, I'm of the opinion that if people believe their is a chance they will get caught, they are more likely to obey the rules. But... if in fact the evidence was really overwhelming as you tend to claim without examining the opposing arguments, then I would be in favor of getting rid of them.

Don't run red lights, don't get a ticket or your picture taken.. simple as that. It would be just peachy if people obeyed the traffic laws in the absence of police but there are some folks out there that think the rules are for other people and run red lights if they don't see a cop car. Since most cities can't afford to put a babysitter on every corner, red light cameras come into play. People whine, and scream, and kick about the red light cameras.. "They are income generators" "Oh, my civil rights are violated" etc etc. Guess what... you violate the civil rights of the person you T-bone cause your'e running late and the Golden Corral Buffet is about to charge dinner prices and you wanna get in on the lunch price. Again... bottom line.. don't run the red light, don't get your picture taken.. I'm missing the point where this is a major intrusion on your rights...

When we had the speed cams/vans here, the problems were they threatened to ticket the people for going 1 mph over the speed limit, and all they needed was a picture of the license plate and the registered owner of the car got a ticket.  The owner had to then prove he/she wasn't driving the car.

Any govt official  that threatens to issue tickets for 1mph over needs  to be removed from their office. I doubt that would fly in most places. and I agree with the question "What's wrong with you?" Even on an anonymous board such as this, I wonder about people who can write some of the comments posted on this forum, (sadly, *uck children isn't the worst I've seen) and what kind of people they might be in real life. I'd like to think this is their medium to be that big bad guy they always cringed from in the middle school hallway, but I fear it's likely their true self manifesting itself in the safety of their home office.

The van cams were run by a private company.  When the owner of the company was asked whether there was a grace limit (e.g., 5 mph) before a ticket would be issued, she said there was none.  Caused quite the uproar.  I think that was part of the reason they got chased out of here.

I`m not the only one who doesn`t fancy children you know.  You couldn`t pay me to have them and I certainly don`t want to hear about anyone elses children because I find them terribly uninteresting.

A calorie is a calorie.  Macro and Micro nutrients while different, contain calories (which is a simple measure of energy) and have energy equivalents.

How this eludes you or anyone else mystifies me.

equating cameras at traffic intersections that record vehicles that violate traffic law by running red lights to the goverment telling you when its ok to cut your hair destroys any credibility you might have in this debate. Just thought you should know..

I'm deeply concerned about my credibilty in your eyes....

We will see how much you libs enjoy the police state you are ushering in once they start regulating, clamping down on, monitoring, or controlling something you DO care about.  Red light cameras may not get you fired up like they do many, but eventually they'll come after something you feel goes WAY too far, and then it will be too late.

Uh, polls show Republicans are the largest segment who supports cameras.  True Progressives, which are not your average ConservaDem, do not and never will.

Incompatible source for the discussion...I believe that is a security camera at a PRIVATE business; not a "big brother" camera.  That is that business owner's right to use that camera.  Same with the other video that you posted.

im not saying im for them but I believe there are many cases of the system in england that have been solved using their "big brother" system of cameras including the subway bombing...
