LOL, Dodge Charger/Challenger/300C.....built by an Italian company on German platforms made in Canada.  The Hemis are GARBAGE.  The 5.7s have been regularily blowing up under 600 hp stress tests and the police Chargers are starting to break down with regularity.   I would like the 6.1 SRT version, but there ain't no way in hell I"d spend $35-40k on a Fiat.

I've always loved the LSX series motors, despite the new Camaro looking like a 10 year old designed it(and its built in Canada).  The 04-06 GTOs were boring, but handsome cars(and Australian with Pontiac badges slapped on).

The new 5.0 Mustang is the real deal, but I fear that there's gonna be a markup for quite some time.  The one thing that kept me from buying a Mustang in the past(aside from every other person having one) was the piece of shit Modular Engine it had.  The ONLY way it was able to make power was if you swapped out the block, went with forged internals, and put a 2.4, 2.8, or Mammoth Kenne Bell blower on it for 15+ psi.  That, along with tranny and rear end work, costs a stupid amount of money.  My old Heads/Cam LS1 with 4400 stall would regularily demolish blown 4.6 mustangs.  The only ones I had trouble with were KB and TT 03-04 Cobras.

As for trucks, just get a Diesel.  Reliability?  Check.  Longetivity?  Check.  I traded in my Hemi Quad Cab Dodge for a newer Cummins 3500.  I got rid of my piece of shit truck with a piece of shit motor for a newer piece of shit truck with a badass motor.  And Diesels last hundreds of thousands miles more than what any gas motor can put out, including overrated Toyota and Honda.

This whole Toyota and Honda "lasts longer" is a myth, a stereotype.  These cars are mostly assembled here in the US by US workers with the same amount of parts coming in from China and other Third-World countries as their competitors.  There is no longer a true American-made, or even Japanese-made or German-made car anymore.  What do you do?  Buy a Jap car assembled in Kentucky, or buy a Ford made in Mexico?

JBGray, I start with you bottom post. VW has had more quality problems with the cars assembled in Mexico than the ones assembled in Germany. So it would stand to reason, that the Fords built in Mexico, possibly will have more flaws than the ones made in the US, and the ones made in the US have more flaws than the ones made in Europe. Euro Fords have higher standards, as the Euro customers and have higher standards for cars. As do the regulators. That's why the Ford Mondeo and Focus (RS and ST) versions are wanted over here. The Japanese cars made here, as well as the German ones, the respective companies tend to have higher standards, and the parts made in Germany or Japan. Allegedly the issues with the Am made gas pedal is to blame for "some" of the sticky pedal issues in Toyotas, not the Japanese versions of the pedal. How true that is, I don't know. But, BMW M and Mercedes M and Audi S and RS cars are assembled in Germany. Shows you just how much they trust American workmanship on the assembly line.

I agree with the engine issue.

Now, the Dodge issues, this current gen of Challenger, Charger cars are built off the old E class chassis from the late 90s, to roughly 2004. No, Fiat chassis at all. But, Fiat might have them build cars off a Lancia chassis, who knows. But, the new Grand Cherokee is getting rave reviews, because it was being worked on in conjunction with the new Mercedes ML, meaning it has a better interior and the first Jeep with independent rear suspension (why didn't I write IRS?)

as far as not driving a car owned by Fiat, you'd drive a Ferrari, Alfa 8C, or a Maserati, correct? All three companies fall under Fiat....

Perfect for certain types of businesses...

WOW!  Here is a story.  I told this one a while back.  My best friend who I grew up with had just signed with the Montreal Expos 2nd round in 1977 June draft.  He had taken some of his Bonus and bought a 76 Chevy Van and had it customized.  A few months later we went and saw Smokey and Bandit.  We left that movie and before we got to the van decided to buy a Trans Am.  We went to the dealership and told the guy we wanted a Trans Am cause we just saw the movie.  Well he said they got in a Special Edition exactly like the one in the film.  They had made 250 of them.  It cost about $11, 500.00  My friend paid the down and I made the monthly.  That winter we went to St. Petersburg, FL for winterball with the Expos.  He drove and I flew.  Well after about 5 weeks I ended up going home.  A couple months later Winterball was over but he didn't want to drive so he flew back to Cali.  He left the car with a guy who had a small used car dealership in Tampa.  I flew back to pick up the car and drive back.  When I got there the car had over 12,000 miles.  This was all done in less than 5 months or so.  It appears this guy actually had the car for awhile and was driving it everywhere.  Back then hardly anyone had a Trans Am and no one had one like this.  Anyway, I took it and drove it back to Cali.  Well the car started making this noise when I got to Louisiana.  I had pulled over into a rest stop and when I woke up and pulled out of the place the car started knocking really bad then it wnet POP really loud.  I pulled over and couldn't see anything wrong.  Well when I started it back up it revved really high around 2500 rpm even with my foot off the peddle.  Anyway I drove it about 50 miles in idle at about 20 mph till I got to Lake Charles, LA.  I pulled into Siebarth Dodge, Pontiac, Merecedes and a bunch of other cars.  When I pulled it because the car was so beautiful but loud as hell everyone came out to see.  Well they took it in the back to see what was wrong.

In the meantime I met a beautiful girl and became very close friends.  Very close.  Then the door opens (guest lounge) and in comes this really tall guy.  The girl gets up and says "Hi dad" HOLY SHIT her dad owned the place.  Well he took me outside and she came along.  In short the motor threw a wrist pin.  They wanted $1200 to replace the motor cause it was beyond the warranty mileage.  It was over by less than 2000 miles.  He told me that if I could turn back the odometer the warranty would pay, but he couldn't do it.  He said for me to go to the next dealership which was in Texas.  Anyway, the car ended up blowing up for good on the Texas/Louisiana border.

I flew home.  We ended up selling to one of our friends dad who had a trailer go pick it up.  He had the odometer turned back and took it up to Santa Barbara and they put a new motor in it and he sold it.  He ended up paying us exactly what was owned on it.  I remain good friends with the Siebarth family who since then sold their dealership which was the largest in Louisiana and now own a huge ranch and raise cows in which McDonalds is their largest account.  They have a herd bull they paid $1 million for.  They sell the sperm for $10,000 a cc.

That is my daily story.  It is titled Trans Am from the Bandit

Cliffs will likely be best so...

Time to get a new car, now.

When the hell did tahoe/avalanche/Yukon become 50 grand???

At the end of the year I'd be much more inclined to buy a large expensive suv as I can use the major tax advantages.

Considering a large pickup as there are write-offs there as well, ie nissan Titan or dodge ram...

If I get a pickup now, much less inclined to buy an suv at years end, which I'd prefer.

Thoughts?

No you are way lost.

a small efficient car, perhaps a Toyota Corolla?
