Ed Corney Training Protocol
« on: July 19, 2005, 03:42:11 PM »
I have searched the web pretty extensively, and I can't seem to find any info on Corney's training splits, nutrition, and techniques.  Does anybody have any idea were I can get some.  A link or something would be great.

Interesting. Why would you want to learn about him? Is he an idol? He's one of mine.

Sorry I don't know about his training methods. I know he's a late starter. Began training at 25 years old.

Just in case you're interested here's his stats:
5'5 170 lbs 18 in arms 44 in chest 30 in waist 16 in neck 24 in thighs 16 in calves bench-400 squats-485 deadlift-500

Yeah sorry that's all I know.

"Ed Corney, one of the best posers of all time, used to spend at least an hour a day in front of the mirror working on his routine, and that was a addition to the time spent in the gym doing a double-split workout. "

Ed and I have just put together his official website . . . it has a lot of great material on it . . . including details of his training, diet, etc. that you were looking for.

Looks good. Pls. include on the site info on other BBs that Ed helped or influenced with posing. I have a feeling that he and Arnold worked together on this aspect.

Thanks

There is some info on his new website about his time living and training with Arnold . . . and later in the early eighties living and training with Danny Padilla .  .  . in fact, if you go to his "friends" links page at http://www.edcorney.net/friends.html
You'll see some shots of him with his buddies and a link to an interview I did with Danny a few weeks ago, where he talks about his relationship with Ed.

Thanks for your interest.

I love that scene in pumping iron where he's squatting with Arnold.

That squatting sequence was the best training footage in the movie along with Ferrigno. Ed made it happen; ask Ed why we didn't see the end of Arnold's squat set..

Ask him also about posing-if he helped or influenced others re: posing.

get serious about what?  that's a great training scene . . . it dispalys an all out intensity that typifies what it takes to be a competitive bodybuilder . . . and it has a man in his 40s outdoing the "champ" who was in his late 20s . . . watch Corney's form as compared to Arnold . . . 4 plates standing completely upright, while going all the way down below parallel . . . Arnold leans forward during his sets . . . . That few minutes can tell you everything you need to know about training hard and not using any excuses . . . like, "I'm too old" . . .

Arnold was saying "come on get serious!" while Ed was squatting.

One day, I hope I can get Ed to speak publicly about what was going through his mind during that film sequence . . . He's told me many times . . . . but I'll leave it up to him to say it in an interview . . . .

I'll have to look at it again . . . wow, the years go by and who knows . . . but I thoght the very final set was four plates, but you could be right, because he performed a serious amount of reps . . .

Anyway . . . I talked to Ed this week and, at 72 years old, he's back to squatting four plates on the smith machine!

The guy is at the GYM 7 DAYS A WEEK now!

You know, he's always trained that way . . . I was talking to Danny Padilla about when he and Ed were living and training together in the early 1980s . . . They did a six-day double split routine and Ed was in his 50s at that time! - Joel
