Richard Jones, was he all hype?

Was he deserving  of the hype? The mag covers, the suggestions that he was the next Mr. O? Or the comparisons to Shawn Ray? Even though in his short lived career he did exhibit the polished "ladies man" persona and physique that was not dis-similar to Shawn Ray

I think he deserves all the hype.  Dude looks great.  Maybe not the biggest physique to win shows but definitely magazine cover material.  He's never put everything into bodybuilding it's always been a hobby still, not his job.  Which isn't a bad thing.

the clone is never as good as the original.  he had shawn's cover looks, but the physique and substance weren't there.  also...remember he had a career n school going on in the background which i think he considered more his meal ticket than bbing vs shawn.

I kinda agree with you on the first part. But, it seems that it was part Shawn, part Flex that created the hype. I remember seeing a pic of him in Flex when he was competing at 180 pounds---awesome chest. I think someone at the Weider/Flex staff took notice and saw the similarities and so it began

I also agree with you G as well. Dude had a job and school, but Richard has been at the bbing game since his early 20s, and now he is in his mid 30s, done pretty well for a mere hobby, when those who take it serious have Jack squat.

it is a bit crazy that MD, RXmuscle, etc. dont do more "where are they now?" series...a peak into their lives off of the stage.  i enjoy vids like Jay-Z and Shawn' Inside and Out, am so tired of the training segments on those sites.   Anja Langer and Alq Gurley would be interesting also.

if the comeback is similar to sean jenkins....where as they keep their careers first...i'm all for it.

Alq Gurley had a "Big Picture" in Flex, or it could have been a flashback---he had said Shawn Ray was Mr. Bodybuilding, in fact, he was like a taller version of Shawn. He had done modeling in Italy as well. Dude at a young age look awesome.
