First off whatever happens to America effects canada. So don't act like I have no interest, in your prosperity. The problem is simple. American wages are to high. In the last decade, China has moblized over 300 million people to compete against american industry. To stay competitive American's must work for less. Problem is they can't work for less because of high housing costs. You can't pay for a 600 k home and cut your wages in half. So the only way these homes can be payed for is by putting more people in these homes. Now if you can suggest what america can export to offset the trade balance I'm all ears. But it'll need cheaper labour costs in automotive, or any industry that's based on labour.
The irony is if the mexicans go home which many are, there gonna be even worst of a housing bubble.

Dude, are you Canadian?!  :D

we dont have to devalue the dollar we could try to convince china to let the value of the yuan go to where it wants to go...this might make our products more appealing to consumers...

thats fine but again the ppl youre talking about arent buying 300k houses either

the US is the largest exporter of grain in the world is that safe enough for you?

LOL. You don't seem to understand what's really taking place. They WANT to debase the dollar.
They WANT China to keep their currency low. They are praying infact begging China does NOT let their currency rise to it's true value.

As for making your products more appealing to consumers... you don't have any products anymore.

Hitachi & Sanyo have replaced RCA
Toyota & Honda have replaced Ford & GM
Seiko has replaced Timex
heck...Lenovo has bought IBM.

When Chinese currency rises to it's true value, the USA will no longer be able to import Chinese goods, but the Chinese won't mind. They will have a huge untapped domestic market to sell to. The USA may have a huge agricultural base, however, without the ability to buy oil, those fields will sit idle unable to produce. It take 10 calories of oil to produce 1 calorie of food.

I believe things have moved past the tipping point for the USA. The only uncertainty that remains is how bad the fallout will be for the rest of the world?

I completely agree with that, ...but just because something is what should take place, doesn't mean it is going to take place. Right now, the powers that be have the entire population whipped into a frenzy of anti-hispanic and xenophobic hysteria that welcoming immigrants let alone increasing their numbers is going to be hard to sell.
LOL man you always say how the news up there in canada isnt biased but if thats where youre getting this idiotic bullshit from then youre dead wrong hun...

ppl arent anti hispanic they arent even anti immigrant they are anti ILLLEEEEGGGGGAAAALLLLL immigrant

Yess but alot of the rnd for these products are done within the country. At the same time these companies are less likely to reinvest this money into america.

I never said anything about illegals, but nobody likes it not even legals .

Anyhow is it rhetoric to say GM almost went under. Or china gdp has doubled in ten years.
Or the chinese are carrying alot of american debt. American`s people and government are massively in debt. These are base line facts, no one is debating these. You guys are in ruff shape on paper at the least you don`t need a new agency to tell you that.

Now maybe trade tarriffs are a way to do it. I`d like to hear more honestly ???

honda and toyota etc...in the US are seperate from the same companies abroad...

I agree that the US is greatly in debt to china which is exactly why the US will not go under b/c china cant afford the US to go under...LMAO this is exactly why most analyst believe we will not have a double dip recession as well...I dont think trade tariffs are the way to go but they will be placed if china doesnt let the yuan appreciate in the near future...

news flash the US govt has been in massive debt for decades now nothing has changed, again you listen to rhetoric and i agree its moving but its not reality...the reality is that china has a vested interest in the US recovering and will eventually do what it can to assure this.

I agree that america won`t go under, but it`s place in the world is slipping fast.

America has been in debt for a while yes. But it`s people are in debt. Then there`s the infrastructure which is energy intensive nation wide. You`ve lost alot of wiggle room. And at the same time the world has never ever been more unstable due to the fact most gov around the world are broke. If there`s anything that this crisis has prooved is that runaway debt is like a fucking plague.

I love how you use the word rhetoric, whenever any time I mention base line facts. It may be the news that`s hyping this shit but it makes it no less true.

lol the problem is youre looking at it in this bubble...that is the rhetoric...the thing is that it isnt a bubble the US could be on the verge or absolute collapse and china would step in...

again the US public has been in debt for decades now its nothing new...this is like bankruptcy for a big company the US will restructure and com e out stronger on the other end..

let me ask you this questino, what good is owning debt if the person that owes it cant pay???

well now you know why china wont let the US fail...lol

WTF how can the usa being seriously in debt to china not be a problem. It`s not just about your economy collasping its about global influence dissapearing fast. A simple fact that English is loosing ground as a language of the globe alone is enough to hurt the american economy.

You seem to be ignoring as well all the work china is putting in to spread it`s outport markets in the rest of asia and africa.

You seriously think America is gonna come out of this stronger than ever ???

Your facing increased energy demand in a country that has one of highest use of oil per capita in the world.

Dude language is a huge factor. You don`t just learn mandarin over night. And most chinese people have the worst english in the world. Again this is only one of many issues america will be challenged with. It`s a subtle effect that american`s aren`t use to dealing with. Please this ain`t no rhetoric, this is common knowledge in most of the world.

What energy is that. Even coal for electrical will take decades to get off the ground. You can`t build these things over night. Also global warming isn`t gonna dissapear, and you can`t bulldog through the world as isolationists.

LOL plenty of ppl speak chinese and all dialects of chinese not just mandrin...a business that is big enough to engange in commerce outside of its country is big enough to have ppl within its company that speak different languages or at the very least translators...again reality vs rhetoric(goodness gracious)

LMAO global warming china etc contribute more to global warming and will in the coming decades than the US ever has...how about nuclear?

who said anything about isolationist?  ::) ::) ::)

Nuclear has limits, takes long time to build and their shortage of people trained in how to develope it. Sure they can be used at some point but it`s much easier to get consumption down, than to rely on hopeful solutions.

China has a unique position in the world. If China and EU for example agree that industrialed nations shouldn`t use coal, your gonna have a hard time getting away with ignoring enviromental.

Please how the fuck is this even rhetoric I`ve never even see this from any source other than people from china.
Again it`s not that you can`t do bussiness without mandarin it`s that it`s an added cost american`s aren`t use to incurring. It`s not just big large international bussiness, it`s start ups trying to get the cheapest made t shirts from bengladesh. Of course they can just go through locals, but it hurts productivity along the way. It`s a subtle advantage that`s often over looked. Or Visa restrictions, or having major banking IMF and world bank in your pocket. Or the ability to ignore trade laws. Or bulldoging your way through the un. This kind of clout can`t be underestimated.

we already have plenty of infrastructure in place to get us going I agree about usage but it would go more so to find ne products that save power than try to change ppl set in their ways...

lmao did you not listen to anything that was said earlier...china is NOT GOING to screw us over...again what good is it to own debt from a person that cant pay? the will talk and so will we but the relationship as of now is mutually beneficial and as long as it stays that way neither is going to screw the other one over...

LOL dude i think you seriously underestimate the number of ppl that speak chinese here in the US...again with the world being as flat as it is right now language is never going to be a barrier to business again....rhetoric vs reality...

Chhina ain`t gonna screw you over never said they would but their not gonna act in your favour. Don`t think for a second their your friend now. Just look at us can relations were pratically the same country , You guys didn`t try to destroy canada, but you`ve fucked us hard many of times.  It`s so common place to anyone outside of the USA it`s silly.

You have plenty of infrastruture ??? America drive the longest distance to get to work, you have the largest homes to heat and cool, and the largest vehicles. This greatly reduces the flexabilty of the country. There no quick and easy way out either. Any of the problems I just mentioned aren`t cheap to deal with. that`s just a small part of the problem.

LOL agreed just like we wouldnt act in their favor or yours for that matter  ;) and one shouldnt expect it...

yes we have plenty of infrastructure, again you love to compare the US to emerging markets without regs, policies, or standards that they must adhere to lol

if we played by the same rules we would be just fine...and sooner or later we will b/c china, india, chile, brazil etc.. will have to...

This sooner or later part about them having to follow rules is a long way off. Maybe by 2060.

Your acting like this is just another banking bubble like there was in the past. It`s entirely different this time around. Your facing unpredictable challenges that have never been faced before. Of course the Economy will bounce back on some level, and people with professional degrees will be fine. But anyone relying on manual labour are facing challenges that are very simple. They have they have to consume more energy to get to work than any other in the world, and import oil for every bit of it.

Alright I'm gona say this and it ain't my political view just the cold fact. Again don't get all emotinal and start name calling.

But am I the only one that thinks greatly increasing immigration is the only way to solve the problems america is facing.  America needs a workforce to support retirment of the babyboomers. You need a cheap labour force to fight china. Finally you need to maintain current housing values.

This isn't a debate it's not my idea it's simply a qestion do you think this'll work or is likely to happen.
no no no... no name calling but no.

You say it isn't your idea and that's fine.  But I'm curious, who's idea is it?

Your post actually raises a topic worth talking about but keep in mind this isn't a simple topic and for a serious reply requires a fairly lengthy post.  It requires addressing several angles and policies that go back a few dacades.
