mc@paladinoforthepeople.comEDWARDS: ANDY SIGNED OFF ON CARL'S LEASES
Lt. Gov. candidate calls Cuomo TV ad desperate, misleading
(DUNKIRK, NY) - Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards, the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York, today called Democrat Governor candidate Andrew Cuomo "desperate and misleading" for attacking Carl Paladino's business in his first general election television advertisement.
"Andrew Cuomo and the Democrat Party are smearing Carl Paladino's successful career and record as a businessman in an attempt to distract the voters," Edwards said. "Their new ad attacking Carl's leases with State government fails to mention that Democrat Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and his predecessors signed off on all of Carl's leases. So did the Democrat Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and his predecessors."
Edwards pointed out that former Office of General Services Commissioner John Egan recently lauded Paladino's work with the State -- urban development that fulfills State policies to revitalize inner cities. "He runs a very good building -- or buildings, I should say," Egan said to the Albany Times Union.
"I would say he has been a good landlord. His rates are below average. I don't know of any major problems. If there had been problems, I would have heard about it. So as a businessman he obviously has done well," Egan said.
"Carl's companies won every State lease he holds as the lowest bidder in an open bidding process without political favoritism in a completely transparent transaction. Carl Paladino participated in public programs open to any New Yorker, and got no political favors," Edwards said. "The allegation that Carl engaged in pay-to-play is desperate and misleading and Andrew knows it."
"Here's the bad news for Andrew Cuomo: his coronation has been canceled," Edwards said.
In an unexpected warning of Cuomo's smear campaign tactics, former Gov. Eliot Spitzer yesterday reminded voters that Andrew Cuomo is "the dirtiest, nastiest political player out there."
Carl Paladino and Greg Edwards will appear together on the campaign trail for the first time tonight, September 23rd, in Cattaraugus County at 6pm. (Old Library Restaurant, 116 South Union Street, Olean, NY 14760)
