Gents, it's that time.   Today I bought my stone.  The specs on it are great, BUT it has a medium blue florescence.

Anyone with experience here?  Thoughts?

gayest post ever
No doubt about it...

not true.  Diamonds have no use at all other than to look at them.  Those things you listed all can do or fuction as something.  Spend the money you would spend on a diamond on a down payment on a house something you can use, not some useless piece of rock that you stare at, that whole it will create memories line is made up by the people who sell them to you.

So I take it you shop at Walmart for all your clothes. Cause lets be honest,,, a $5 walmart shirt provides the same function as a $100 name brand shirt.

And addressing the function issue, what function do flowers serve yet women love to get them. The point isn't if the diamond is a good investment or not, it's about what it means to the person receiving it and it's up to them to place a value on it. Hell, half the stuff we have these days could be argued as a waste of money.

LOL, that's EXACTLY what my wife said!!!! when we were talking about this.. I still got her a kickass rock, my friend owns a diamond mine in Africa and spends half the year in Toronto, brings back huge diamonds for smaller jewelers (he supplies them) he gave me an insane deal all I had to do was get the thing mounted on a ring. In Africa 1 carat stones go for a few hundred bucks..if that

So you have a diamond afterall.....

Guys who are married or enganged, how much did you spend on the ring?  While I think diamonds are retarded, but if you meet a great girl and thats what she wants, what are you gonna do?

"Diamonds have many uses.  About 20% of diamonds found are used for jewelry.  The other 80% are used in industry.  These uses include:   cutting tools, polishing hard metal, phonograph and videodisc needles, and bearings for laboratory instruments."

Also, they are used in RK surgery to precisely cut the cornea.

I've already addressed this in a previous post.. they are not the same quality or grade diamonds as ones used for jewelery, basically the industrial use ones are the ones they wouldn't be able to polish or sell or have other defects.

LOL, true..but in some cases (like mine) I ended up getting a $6000.00 stone for closer to $1500.00, the rock is still 2-3x the size and brilliance of any of her friends/cousins, and most of her friends are married or engaged so she can still pull the bling card if she ever wanted to, thankfully she doesn't really care about shit like that and literally said months before we got engaged not to get a big rock and use the money towards a big tv, so with my savings  we ended up getting a huge rock and a 74" lcd for me :)

The middle man I knew it had to be the Jews always trying to get more money for nothing!  Onlyme can you please give us the story on your walmart experience?

I think one of the cool experiences I had with shopping for the ring was at one store she liked a particular ring. There was no price tag and I didn't want to be obvious so I told the lady to write the ring information down so I can keep it in mind.. Well, she writes the ring info, diamond clarity etc etc and the price is $4,999. I'm thinking to myself, well, this ain't happening..

As we are walking out of the store my girlfriend says to me "I saw how much that ring is and I don't want you spending anything near that much for a ring"...  I thought that was pretty cool...

On another note... for those of you who are married (and not macho by GETBIG standards) did you insure the engagement ring?  And if so what company did you use?

I've been married for over 4 years and haven't gotten around to insuring it, but I'm getting very nervous now and would rather do it sooner rather than later!

I called state farm as they have both my home and car policies and I was quoted about $120 a year

There is an insurance company that is well recommended and is on the bluenile site, jewel mutual or something like that... might get a qoute from them as well, they may have a more comprehensive policy.

That is easy to say. If you want a beautiful woman for yourself you are competing against lots of rivals. You have to pay the price and a diamond reflects on your resources and taste as much as it does on her attractiveness.

Vince, I don't think I would want the beautiful woman who picked me over other men because I bought her a bigger diamond. .. but that's just me. And prettier women don't always have the biggest diamonds.. just sayin

Did they ask for an appraisal?  Sales Receipt?

That isn't how it works. If you ARE in love with a beautiful woman then a big diamond is a small price to get her. Not saying she will demand it but she sure will be able to get offers if that is what she wants. Look at movie stars, etc. The size of a diamond says a lot to other women and that is very important to them.

I had a girlfriend who owned over $1,000,000 in jewelry. She wore a diamond over 11 carats. Nothing less that 10 good carats would please her. That might not be sufficient, either. You just can't please some women.
