8 yrs? really?  The thing is, after a certain point, its all a crap shoot anyway. For example, I know several people who have gotten divorced after 25 + years of marriage. I know people who knew each other less than a year who are still married years later, and people who waited 8 yrs and got divorced 5 yrs later. There are no guarantees with marriage. Having said that, I'm reminded of a guy I knew who married the chick who sat next to him on a long plane ride, and wrote to each other for 6 months. He married her before he ever slept with her. I saw that divorce coming from a mile away. And I understand it takes time to get to know someone. I've been with this chick a year. In that time I have met her friends and family. you can tell a lot about someone by the company they keep. We've had some bumps in the road and I watched how she handled them and was very impressed. I'll have another year and several months living together before we are married. I feel comfortable with that time frame. I appreciate the concerns and advice, and we very well may end in divorce someday as no one goes into a marriage thinking "This won't last" except Anna Nicole Smith or Elizabeth Taylor.

Been exclusive with my girlfriend for a year now... Her birthday was Friday. I got a  jacuzzi suite at the Drury Plaza Hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio.. had dinner at a local restaurant and the mariachi group sang her favorite song along with Happy Birthday. After dinner we went for a walk along the river walk. I kept looking for the perfect place to propose as it's a pretty romantic place in the evening but on Friday it was packed to the gills and every place I had in mind was just crawling with people. So we kept walking.. and walking... We finally came to a  pedestrian bridge over the river and it seemed perfect. I started my spill...."we've been going out..." and right about there I stepped on her toes...took her about a minute to regain compusure from the pain.. by that time it seemed like someone yelled "Action!" and people came out of the woodwork walking towards us, and the moment was ruined. Fortunatley I had fake proposed to her about 20 times as in "We've been going out for a year, I think its time to take it to the next level, so I have a question to ask you... do you like diet pepsi or diet coke better?"... things like that.. So we continued walking till we came to a pretty secluded spot. I figured it was now or never so I started my proposal again... she was joking around and thought I was about to fool her again. I did the old get on one knee thing and she started to wonder if I was serious. When she saw me pull the ring out she freaked out. I asked her to marry me and she was saying "are you serious"??, is this a joke? By that time I was a little nervous this wouldn't play out all that well as it did in my head.. but she was crying and smiling and I finally said "Hey, I need an answer here" and she said "Yes, of course I'll marry you!" I put the ring on and got back up and suddenly heard clapping. I looked around and people were standing around smiling.. I had no idea anyone had walked up.

All in all it was a pretty good weekend.

Kinda funny story....

I have a co-worker that over the course of his 45 yr old life up until recently, had been married 5 times. I've known him through 4 of his marriages. I dated one of his ex's before he married her and warned him about her psycho behavior. She was hot, but psycho. Each time we hear the same thing, She is the one, she is great, I'm so in love... and within  a year, sometimes less than 6 months... he is married. On one ocassion he was divorced and engaged in the same month.. Soooo, he has been divorced now for about a year.. and about 3 months ago I notice his face book entries are starting to look familiar..Now this is a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve to the point it's embarrassing. He is 260 lbs, about 6'2 and has slammed his share of bad guys over the years, but a nicer guy you can't find. But when it comes to facebook entries, he is such a girl. He met a victim services gal and they started dating and every day I was greeted with an entry of "I am the luckiest guy in the world to be with such a wonderful beautiful person, I have found my soul mate.. etc etc" It was/is the most sugar coated, girly man drivel you ever read but all the girls would leave comments like "oh how sweet" and stuff like that, they ate it up. One example, he put he lost 10 lbs because he is so in love and happy... I responded with "If you lost 10 lbs everytime you fell in love you'd be in a hospital with a tube down your nose now" which he deleted quite quickly.. 

It got so bad and so embarrassing that I had to fix my page where his entries didnt show up anymore. About 3 weeks ago and 6 months into their relationship he gets married AGAIN..  I hadn't heard from him in awhile and a couple days ago I looked at his page to see how he is doing and noticed he hadn't posted in a week which for him is unusual. I ran into a mutual friend that day and mentioned him. My friend had just had lunch with him the day before and he  had started off the conversation with "I am married to the most evil bitch alive...." 

Some guys should have thier right to marry revoked, or a panel of friends must approve the marriage prior to a license being issued.
