Most guys have no idea how beneficial this will all be to your future as an Engineer.

You can laugh all the way to the bank. Think of the job security, you are in one of the most sought after disciplines on the market, across the globe. Even during this recession, Engineers have been the last to go.

I bet your Ph.D. is fully paid for as well. 5 years from now you will be set my friend.

Thanks For the props Overload... at first my work was gonna pay for my PhD, but I was able to land an assistantship that relieved me of my tuition, which is not bad conisdering out of state tuition was gonna be $10,000 per semester! Just need to get through it now!!!

There is a big gap between starting salaries of engineers and everyone else - part of the reason that I went into the field! But also like other said, employers tend to also look at the name of the school!!!
