Here's a cool site which shows many of the old abandoned buildings.  I visited Detroit last year and I found it to be worse the St Louis, where I'm from.  It's really interesting to see what an amazing city it was 40 years ago and compare it to what it's become today. 

I found most of the people in this video to be out of touch with reality.

Most of the Arabs in Michigan stay in Dearborn,  they really don't venture too far from there.

Everyone forgets how Segregated of a state Michigan is,  where I live you don't see many people of color.  I kind of chuckled how the UFC last week kept saying they were in Detroit when they were at the Palace,  not even close to Downtown.

What happened in Detroit was greed friends. People started to see things starting to drop and instead of adjusting and making changes for the future people at the bottom and the top just grabbed everything they could by any means necessary.

As far as politics John Engler and Granholm are both equal parts of the problem.  I voted for Bonior in the last elections because I hate Granholm,  she epitomizes everything wrong with the modern Democratic party.

Rick Snyder will probably fuck things up also.  I don't care much for modern Dems but Bernaro was kind of a throwback guy and I actually voted for him.
Also remember there is still a lot of money in the state of Michigan,  Johnny Damon's wife didn't love it here because of these nasty videos you see of Detroit and Flint.  The burbs a re different story all together.
