When guys start putting their own names on shirts and calling it a brand, they dun jumped the shark. Cutler's fall is near. Too bad, seems like a good guy. Just bad advice.

His fall is not near at all, he outmassed everybody at the last O. The only way anybody is taking him down is if a) he comes in soft as shit or b) somebody (maybe heath) makes colemanesque gains.

Kai's done, Wolf's done, Branch has peaked, Victor's done, Dexter never changes, Roelly needs another 5 years without getting injured or having health problems, Rockell's too short, Freeman's too old, Evan's nowhere close, Ruhl's done :(, etc, etc.

Jay knows what he's doing.

Yep. Going through the motions is working for him. He's always been a very methodical kind of guy.
Yes, because he's always been known for superior back thickness and detail....it's his calling card.

All,

I'm not a professional bodybuilder or even a "real" bodybuilder, I'm just an average homosexual who likes muscle.

That being said, aren't "behind-the-neck lat pulldowns" a recipe for injury?  All of my life, I've heard that the move can actually cause tears and all sorts of boo boos.

The professionals here that are expert trainers, what is your take?

Odd, I was thinking the same thing while watching that vid. (About the pulldowns, not the average homo thing) ((No homo))
Interested in hearing peoples take on that.

Seems strange that our very own Mr. Olympia would perform such a move that supposedly has no true benefit only a sure-fire potential for injury.

Again, I'm not a trainer or even a skilled bodybuilder, but I could have sworn to have heard Bob Chick say many times that this particular move is dangerous.  I could be wrong on that.

Maybe Coach, Alex23, ManBearPig, Chaos, GH15, Chick or some of the other veteran lifters could chip in and give us their take...

its not just that, Ive heard that ANY excersize behind the neck like that is very dangerous, seated BTN presses, and BTN pulldowns, something about the range of motion being to deep and putting way to much stress on the body.
I know for sure the behind the neck presses are terrible, but Im not so sure about the pulldowns.

Yep...nothing behind the neck, no presses, no pulldowns, no pullups, etc, it's just asking for trouble.

standing behind the neck barbell press is one of my favourite shoulder exercises

a wider grip keeps it safe, I find

Used to love behind the neck presses, very effective. But I'm definitely convinced that they contributed greatly to my rotator cuff issues... :(

If your piss is dark, I would suggest seeing your doctor for a referral to a urologist. :)

He's already at the top.

Why train like an animal and risk inury?

Jay's smart. He knows his limits.

That being said, on his new dvd he deadlifts 7 plates for 3 reps at the end of his back workout.

nah, warm up properly, keep the weight controlled while you lift it, go heavy but not too heavy that our over exerting yourself. lots of rotator cuff work. should be fine.

You're just putting alot of strain on the rotator cuff area to statically hold the position in such a tight area, e.g. the contraction stage of behind neck pulldowns. It's frankly tough to keep your body alignment taught and correct while actually pulling the bar down below your neck. The body wasn't designed for it.

A few years ago Jay's form was much better but it looks like that the bad form work because he's gotten bigger and bigger.

Still, intensity is very low and his video's are quite boring...

Is there any sort of plan in action here? Yes, I know he's Mr. Olympia, but let's face it, Jay made all his intial gains with genetics, drugs and typical horseshit pump-style lifting. He's still training like he did in the beginning ... and it no longer cuts the mustard. That is, if he's looking to add muscle, thickness, etc.

Watch the video and tell me he's not just running through the motions.

I'm surprised in the slack he allows while doing low rows. Its only a faction of a second but still :-\
