Diet/carb question
« on: January 02, 2011, 11:19:11 AM »
As some of you may know, I am in the process of attempting a "body transformation" going from 167 @ 15% to 165 @ 6% Allright, so here is the situation, I weight train every other day, and I'm thinking about cycling 24 hours normal diet with a decent amount of carbs and for the next 24 hours eating a lo-carb/lo-cal diet (800 cals/50 carb grams). I plan to do 2 hard 30 min aerobic sessions on my off days, days when I don't weight train. With the diet, I plan to start the calorie/carb load the night before my weight training session. So it looks something like this: at around 11pm have a decent sized meal with plenty of carbs, and continue with another high cal/hi carb meal at breakfast upon rising. And then have my weight training session after breakfast, and then after the training session a moderate cal moderate carb meal, and then hit the lo carb/lo cal protocol until 11pm the next day, with 2 or maybe even 3 hard 30 min aerobic sessions while on the lo cal/lo carb protocol. So what y'all think about this?

Why so difficult?

Back in the day it was just hard training 4 times a week, cardio after every session and caloric deficit. No carbs in the evening.

Why not che? My all-time best not ripped condition was 167 @ 8% so it's not like I'm expecting miracles. And yes, completely natural, that is unless you consider coffee a drug ;D

Well, I'd rather get it over with really quickly if I can, and that's why I'm willing to take some extreme measures. I do have another option... Follow this lo carb/lo cal 2 hard 30 min aerobic sessions daily protocol for 3 days straight, and then carb load the night before and have my weight training session on the 4th day, after carb loading. I know from lots of experience that each muscle needs to be trained once every 6 to 8 days for optimal progress, so weight training every 4 days works fine for me.

Doesn't matter, fatpanda and TA says "a calorie is a calorie" and cardio is useless. If they said it you know it must be true!

Impossible in 12-16  weeks  that's why I asked how long he's going to be dieting for.

In 12-16 weeks impossible

167 lbs at 15% bf =   142 LBM  25 Fat
165 lbs  at 6%  bf =   155 LBM  10 Fat

He would have to gain 13 lbs of muscle while losing  15lbs of fat  , in 12-16 weeks  naturally ?  I don't think so.

Honestly, I'm certain that I can go from 15% to 8% in under 6 weeks, but... Getting to sub-6 is gonna be MUCH HARDER! Maybe it would be go to just focus on getting to 8% now, and then stabilizing as far as fat loss is concerned and just trying to add muscle without gaining fat? Ideally, I'd like to kill 2 birds with one stone (gaining muscle while losing fat) but I suppose that it may be asking too much...

Hey Mr N, if I load up for 2 days straight, then I would have to switch to weight training every 4 days. Do you really think that it's necessary to carb load for 2 full days to fully replenish glycogen stores? Shit man! If I could do it in under in under 12 or even maybe 6 hours that would leave me much more time to be in a fat burning mode and achieve my fat-loss results MUCH, MUCH FASTER 8)

All I have to go on is my contest experiences. If I carb loaded 2 days before the show my glycogen would restore itself and muscle size would fill out in other words I would not come in "flat" so that always told me something. Just my my experience bro..

If you're wanting to get lean, skip the 11 pm carb load. I would keep the carbs low until you feel your energy low, then  increase just enough for energy. You're wanting to do this quick transformation, not gonna happen on tons of carbs.

I hear ya man, but the thing is I don't wanna go overboard of the carb load, I just want to take in enough carbs to replenish glycogen stores in order to have a productive weight training workout. So now, I've got a little plan mapped out. I will weight train every 3 days and follow a 2on/1off diet protocol, 2 days lo carb/lo cal and 1 day carb replenish/normal cal day. I will stick with this protocol til I hit 8% which I'm very confident will happen in 3 weeks, 4 weeks tops. Then once I hit 8% I will make a re-assement from there. Remember, I was able to go from 12% to 7.5% in 2 weeks.

Unless you've got a blast furnace for a metabolism, you are going to have to suffer on little or no carbs for 3 or 4 weeks to loose that much bodyfat. Forget about reloading every third day.

For me I would rather resistance train almost every day during the transformation period. Train to get the fat off and build muscle, leave the cardio for the ladies.

Allright, so I admit that the arms goals might be a little bit much, but... IT IS A FACT THAT SPOT GAINING IS POSSIBLE. Also, do you refute my claim that I was able to go from 12% to 7.5% in 2 weeks?
