The video of Ted Williams was shot by a Columbus Dispatch reporter who had seen Williams on the side of the road using his voice to collect money from passersby.
The video was viewed more than 4 million times in a 24-hour period after it was posted Tuesday.
The offer to Williams was made Wednesday on Cleveland radio station WNCI 97.9 FM by a woman claiming to represent the Cavs and Quicken Loans Arena.CNBC's Darren Rovell tweeted that the offer was genuine, and also said that NFL Films was interested in hiring Williams. The Cavaliers' offer includes voiceover work on radio and television, and on a new website.
In the video, Williams said he was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and went to school at one point with an eye toward getting into radio. He said he became involved with drugs and alcohol, but has been sober for the past two years.
"Hopefully somebody from one of these television or radio stations says, 'Hey, I need a voiceover or hey I need something," Williams said.
