And in fact, at one time my 115 pound female training partner was able to pull more than I ROFL!

I did 585 for a double, but not off the floor. I had to grab it off the power rack, with the pins set at just above my knee level. So 600 was out of the question, although I think I can get there one day.

Conventional or sumo? Conventional I assume, since it's a bit unusual to use sumo style with a pin pull ;D

Yep, conventional. I only do the Sumo style once every couple of months or so.

If I may sound stupid, which I'm sure this is a dumb question..but what are the benefits of sumo

It targets your inner quads and upper traps more, but I don't like the way it feels. I normally use the sumo style only when I do partials on the power rack, to mix things up a bit.

Depends on the lifter.

1) Sumo brings in more of the hip, quad, and glutes. Conventional pulling involves more of the back.

2) It cuts down on the ROM of the lift. So many Powerlifters do it to move more weight.

3) Some feel it allows for better back position and a tighter pull/ better bar path. The bar doesn't travel out infront of them so much.

A young stud approached me at the gym during a grueling set of scissor leg lifts and asked me about the ways in which he can attain size and strength.

One of the many things I told him to do was:

STAY AWAY FROM ALL OVER-THE-COUNTER SUPPLEMENTS.

What piece of advice would you guys give the youth who become interested in bodybuilding?  Limit your input to one specific thing.

Well, theres a youngster in my gym (not that im old, im 22)...hes 17 and reminds me a lot of myself when i was starting ....i was so obsessed and motivated..
I always tell him to save his money for later to buy real "supplements" when the time comes, eat well and a lot but not overeat...and never take this whole "lifestyle" too seriously...

For me to make any advice to young man who look to make bigger muscle is maybe to not do sexy favor to promoter of the bodybuilding show.  It never make good situation in end

One time, my brother, the Royce Gracie, make mouth sex with tournament promoter in Rio and he get mouth pimples week later

Welcome to the board, I am a huge fan!

You can pull big weights even if you're weak. Many say that sumo pulling is easier than conventional, and in general that is not true, since most world records are pulled in conventional. But sumo pull relies on legs, and takes weight off of the lower back. So the lazy powerlifters of today who do nothing but squat and bench (since there are the biggest poundages) can pull big too with their girly low backs. I don't consider a sumo a real deadlift. Not because it's easy, but because it's a squat.
