Thousands protest in Jordan
« on: January 28, 2011, 03:00:14 PM »
Wow....sure glad the Israeli's have nukes.

Thousands of people in Jordan have taken to the streets in protests, demanding the country's prime minister step down, and the government curb rising prices, inflation and unemployment.

In the third consecutive Friday of protests, about 3,500 opposition activists from Jordan's main Islamist opposition group, trade unions and leftist organisations gathered in the capital, waving colourful banners reading: "Send the corrupt guys to court".

The crowd denounced Samir Rifai's, the prime minister, and his unpopular policies.

Many shouted: "Rifai go away, prices are on fire and so are the Jordanians.''

Another 2,500 people also took to the streets in six other cities across the country after the noon prayers. Those protests also called for Rifai's ouster.

Members of the Islamic Action Front, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood and Jordan's largest opposition party, swelled the ranks of the demonstrators, massing outside the al-Husseini mosque in Amman and filling the downtown streets with their prayer lines.

King Abdullah has promised some reforms, particularly on a controversial election law. But many believe it is unlikely he will bow to demands for the election of the prime minister and Cabinet officials, traditionally appointed by the king.

Rifai also announced a $550 million package of new subsidies in the last two weeks for fuel and staple products like rice, sugar, livestock and liquefied gas used for heating and cooking. It also includes a raise for civil servants and security personnel.

Record deficit

However, Jordan's economy continues to struggle, weighed down by a record deficit of $2bn this year.

Inflation has also risen by 1.5 per cent to 6.1 per cent just last month, unemployment and poverty are rampant - estimated at 12 and 25 per cent respectively.

Ibrahim Alloush, a university professor, told the Associated Press that it was not a question of changing faces or replacing one prime minister with another.

"We're demanding changes on how the country is now run," he said.

He also accused the government of impoverishing the working class with regressive tax codes which forced the poor to pay a higher proportion of their income as tax.

He also accused parliament as serving as a "rubber stamp'' to the executive branch.

"This is what has led people to protest in the streets because they don't have venues for venting how they feel through legal means," Alloush said.

When I see the iranians, HP posters, DU posters, and the usual gang of communist/radical islamist, socialist, and other fringe groups cheering these movements on, I know we are in DEEP trouble.

The king of Jordan on Tuesday dismissed his government and appointed a new prime minister, a move that came after several protests calling for political reform in the country.

King Abdullah II asked Marouf Al Bakhit to form the new government, the Royal Court said in a statement. The new government's function will be to "take practical steps, quick and concrete, to launch a process of genuine political reform, comprehensive development, and take genuine steps towards strengthening democracy," among other tasks, according to Al Bakhit's letter of instruction, which was also released.

Listening to some of the news tonight, this looks like it could be the eruption that leads into what they would call WWIII down the road.  I'm not going to say what I really want to say about this... no point...

Time for Six Days War II. This time Israel will not hold back.

Muslim Brotherhood: ‘Prepare Egyptians for war with Israel'

A leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt told the Arabic-language Iranian news network Al-Alam on Monday that he would like to see the Egyptian people prepare for war against Israel, according to the Hebrew-language business newspaper Calcalist.

Muhammad Ghannem reportedly told Al- Alam that the Suez Canal should be closed immediately, and that the flow of gas from Egypt to Israel should cease “in order to bring about the downfall of the Mubarak regime.” He added that “the people should be prepared for war against Israel,” saying the world should understand that “the Egyptian people are prepared for anything to get rid of this regime.”

Ghannem praised Egyptian soldiers deployed by President Hosni Mubarak to Egyptian cities, saying they “would not kill their brothers.” He added that Washington was forced to abandon plans to help Mubarak stay in power after “seeing millions head for the streets.”

Right, because nuking the hell out of countries right next to you makes total sense ::)  Conventional war is the better option and even Israel should know that.  They use the nuke threat with bordering neighbors as a end all threat just to say if we go down, you all go down.

Israel is about the size of two counties in Wyoming, or rather we could fit several Israels in Wyoming.  So put it this way, how smart to you think it would be for one county to start nuking the shit out of surrounding counties in Wyoming?

Israel doesn't need nukes, nore should they have ever had them.  The've been given the means to defend themselves without them and have proven that ability thanks to us.  If the shit gets hard, we obviously have their back and will come in.  What the fuck is the point of them having nukes when we have their back like that?  It just adds an added extra WTF that is not needed.  Especially when you have some crazy loose canon generals over there saying shit like, if they go down, they're going to nuke every capital in Europe...  Seriously, they should have never been a nuclear power.  Even if you're dead set on protecting them and love Israel, still not a logical choice.
