Speaking of pros not training hard...
« on: February 12, 2011, 04:48:47 AM »
Someone recently created a thread asking why pros don't train so hard nowadays, so I'd like to share what a friend of mine said about witnessing many pros out in Cali and their training styles/routines. He told me that he noticed that the pros ONLY trained their legs hard and heavy, and I find this interesting. Also, he told me about a time when he was training lat pulldowns, and gh15... Opps, I meant to say Gunther S. was training pulldowns right next to him. My friend said that Gunther maxed out with 120 pounds, while my friend was knocking out reps with 400 pounds lol

Bodybuilding is not about lifting heavy weights... One would suppose you as a small guy know that...

Well, this friend of mine has the name of JM Blakely, so type his name into google images and you will see that he was indeed capable of handling 400 pounds on the lat pulldown. Oh yeah, he also has a 700+ pound bench press to his credit. Anyways, the point of the thread is that he witnessed the pros only training their legs heavy, so I just thought that it could lead to an interesting discussion and possibly a learning experience.

You always come up with an excuse as to why you're right, do you not dj181? ::)

This is the second time I know of that you have thrown out JM's name, and both times you were back peddling because, in your efforts to fit in, you're bullshit was called.

So what am I "right about" here? I never said in this particular thread that training heavy or light is the answer. All I did was repeat what was told to me as FACT. Yeah, I didn't see this 1st hand, but my friend indeed did, and I'm certain that he was speaking the truth. Quite honestly I started this particular thread for 2 reasons. The 1st reason was because that I found it interesting that the pros only train their legs hard and heavy, and I was curious if other fellas witnessed this as well. And secondly, it was for self motivation purposes, since I hardly ever train my legs hard and/or heavy. So where exactly in this thread did I say that I was right or wrong? I just mearly reported what was reported to me as fact.

A 202 pro used to go to my gym. Taking in to factor he was probably 5'6" I still wasn't impressed with how heavy he was going. Never went to failure. Barely broke a sweat. He finished his leg workout with 100lb barbell deads. Only 100lb. And this guy has over 20 in arms. All genetics ppl

I learned this myself a few years back.....nagging injuries were catching up to me from always killing it in the gym, so i decided to lower the weight and up the reps and i didn't lose any size. If anything I look better now.

8 reps is the lowest I go now and say goodbye to forced reps and all that. I will very rarely go past failure for one workout just to keep my strength up, then it's right back to higher reps

Ok, but when you train with higher reps do you still train to failure or near failure? Also, has your strength gone up, or down, or stayed the same since you switched to training with higher reps?

anyone whos trained hard for well over 10yr will tell the same story, its only beginners who bash the hard n heavy drum over and over, your body wont take it after initial 1st few years

To be honest i really don't keep track of my max strength....I'm not a powerlifter.

The other day I did 295 on the incline for 10 clean reps...so I would say my strength is kinda what it has always been...those are my usual numbers. I know that I'm not quite as strong as i was ten years ago, but it hasn't been a dramatic dropoff

Pros are all drugged up.  They all look like crap without the assist.  At least if you train without drugs you will look fantastic but you couldn't compete at the lowest level.

Then again a lot of pros train in an endurance type way.  What I mean is that doing 6 sets per exercise with 30 seconds rest means that heavy weights are out the window.  It's like a marathoner being told by a miler he doesn't train hard because he runs sub failure miles.  We know both train hard.  Just one is higher intensity training.

your friend couldn't carry gunter's jock strap......another case of some insecure a hole who has to tell stories about how he saw such and such who was a pro......and he buried the pro in training intensity......when will these swinging dicks get past workout weights???

gunter has a huge back and we all know that he has been a threat on the ifbb stage......again we have more shit talkers here than we know what to do with......imho
