Outed!

Really? You do have an obsession with outing people, as I recall....this is somewhat pathetic, don't you think? There must be something better you could do with your time. As for me being outed, I was never in.

I'm curious kiwi, wots yo IQ? It's obvious dat you is a real smart fella, and I'd put you somewhere in the high teens to mid 20s (118 to 125). P.S. Ma IQ is in da high 20s to low 30s (127 to 132). Yeah man, I know dat I don't sound too bright, but just remember dat IQ has ABSOLUTELY NOTHINH to do wit high levels of class or social tact. Remember, as someone labeled me here, I AM ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT 8)

I've only taken 1 test and that was online, around 15 years ago. It was in the 140s, but I don't know if it was a credible test or if it even means anything. I think the mind functions in multiple ways and dimensions, the efficiency of all of which can't be gauged solely with IQ tests alone.

IQ is a bit like how fast a car can go from 0-60. That might be the be-all end-all for some people, but for others, it's about how comfortable the car is or how stable or interior space that is more important. A high IQ or intelligence is a double-edged sword that doesn't automatically translate to achieving success or happiness or even wisdom, although it plays a big part.

Good post kiwi, wisdom and intelligence are not directly related to each other, and in fact, even though I'm pretty intelligent, I ain't too wise. And in my humble opinion, wisdom is MUCH MORE closely linked to happiness than intelligence is, and remember, success DOES NOT equal happiness. They are plenty of successful but miseriable people in this world.

The pursuit of happiness itself is almost always a struggle with diminishing returns.

Not really....

one could say it is the pursuit   itself that has diminishing returns. Many times happiness is right there in front of us, yet we search for some other elixir to quench our "thirst". Happiness comes from within, and shines outward.

Yeah, but do people actually and actively pursue happiness? Me thinks that happiness is a by product of a decent and fullfilling life.

Wasn't that what I just said? Oh well, a matter of interpretation.

All I know/seen is that the people that make it their goal to pursue the ghost called happiness have almost always ended up being some of the most manic depressive people I've ever seen.
In a way, the reward mechanism that gives us the feeling of happiness is not that much different from how drugs affect us. You always need more and never satisfied with were you are.

 I agree for sure.

When you see a really bulky guy who's 5'8 or below they just look laughable. It doesn't really look good or cool. Just looks funny.

Anything above 230 at 5 8 looks funny and awkward. If you are say 5 8  under a 200lb athletic strong type physique is what should be opted for. Not a bloated clown that cant even throw a football.

I took one online about 10 years ago and it was 154 , I doubt mine is that high. that's insanely high although my daughter was tested in her senior year of high school and she was 129 she graduated second her class with honors and got a scholarship for engineering

something to think about.

What is intelligence, anyway?

When I was in the army, I received the kind of aptitude test that all soldiers took and, against a normal of 100, scored 160. No one at the base had ever seen a figure like that, and for two hours they made a big fuss over me.

(It didn't mean anything. The next day I was still a buck private with KP - kitchen police - as my highest duty.)

All my life I've been registering scores like that, so that I have the complacent feeling that I'm highly intelligent, and I expect other people to think so too.

Actually, though, don't such scores simply mean that I am very good at answering the type of academic questions that are considered worthy of answers by people who make up the intelligence tests - people with intellectual bents similar to mine?

For instance, I had an auto-repair man once, who, on these intelligence tests, could not possibly have scored more than 80, by my estimate. I always took it for granted that I was far more intelligent than he was.

Yet, when anything went wrong with my car I hastened to him with it, watched him anxiously as he explored its vitals, and listened to his pronouncements as though they were divine oracles - and he always fixed my car.

Well, then, suppose my auto-repair man devised questions for an intelligence test.

Or suppose a carpenter did, or a farmer, or, indeed, almost anyone but an academician. By every one of those tests, I'd prove myself a moron, and I'd be a moron, too.

In a world where I could not use my academic training and my verbal talents but had to do something intricate or hard, working with my hands, I would do poorly.

My intelligence, then, is not absolute but is a function of the society I live in and of the fact that a small subsection of that society has managed to foist itself on the rest as an arbiter of such matters.

Consider my auto-repair man, again.

He had a habit of telling me jokes whenever he saw me.

One time he raised his head from under the automobile hood to say: "Doc, a deaf-and-mute guy went into a hardware store to ask for some nails. He put two fingers together on the counter and made hammering motions with the other hand.

"The clerk brought him a hammer. He shook his head and pointed to the two fingers he was hammering. The clerk brought him nails. He picked out the sizes he wanted, and left. Well, doc, the next guy who came in was a blind man. He wanted scissors. How do you suppose he asked for them?"

Indulgently, I lifted by right hand and made scissoring motions with my first two fingers.

Whereupon my auto-repair man laughed raucously and said, "Why, you dumb jerk, He used his voice and asked for them."

Then he said smugly, "I've been trying that on all my customers today." "Did you catch many?" I asked. "Quite a few," he said, "but I knew for sure I'd catch you."

"Why is that?" I asked. "Because you're so goddamned educated, doc, I knew you couldn't be very smart."

And I have an uneasy feeling he had something there.
