Phelps said he ate approximately 12,000 calories per day during the 2008 Summer Olympics.
This included a breakfast of three fried egg sandwiches, a five-egg omelet, three pieces of French toast, three pancakes and grits. Lunch was typically a pound of pasta and two sandwiches. For dinner, he would eat an entire large pizza and a pound of pasta... basically whatever crap he could get ahold of.
He weighed 165 lbs.
Just how many calories do you think it takes to swim? Even if you could swim all day, could you do it with a stomach full of food?
Competitive swimmers can only race well on an empty stomach, otherwise they get exactly the same results as a long distance runner gets : The shits.
You would get such a fucking nasty stomach ache along with some nasty cramping if you tried to eat that much and swim. Phelps would have been shitting all day long.
I do believe that at times (when he was stoned) he would put down a ton of junk food calories. I doubt very much that he could have accurately counted them and I also doubt that he did this very often.
Do the math on that many calories vs. the metabolism of a guy that weighs 165. Even if he burned 750 an hour (swimming "butterfly")-- how long do you think he could keep it going?
Been there, did that. It's all bullshit.
No, I wasn't an Olympic Swimmer (obviously)- but I swam Far Western and 10 best cut-off right along side them for many years. All I did was swim Butterfly and Freestyle. My times were nothing to laugh at, after all, we are only talking milliseconds that separate the men from the boys here.
Even if Jay Cutler tried to eat that much every day he would just get sick. Real sick.
Hardly!!
Again, my diet is arond 3000-3500 calories and 270-300 grams or protein. On average, it's something like this:
Morning shake - 120 calories; 24 grams protein
Breakfast - 400 calories; 35-40 grams protein
Weight Gainer (Mass Fuel Extreme) - 600 calories; 50 grams protein
Lunch - 500 calories; 40 grams protein
Weight Gainer (Mass Fuel Extreme) - 600 calories; 50 grams protein
Post workout shake (Designer whey & Gatorade) - 350 calories; 30 grams protein
Dinner - 450 calories; 40 grams protein
Nighttime snack - 100 calories; 20 grams protein
Total (approximately) - 3,120 calories; 294 grams of protein.
And, I'm nowhere near a pro bodybuilder (or even a top NPC amateur). Yet, we're supposed to think that Jay Cutler can't possibly down much more than that. Also, I'm in my late 30s now; 15 years ago, I could eat considerably more than this.
