It makes more sense to pussy out of doing squats.  If you mess up doing a squat, you can get crushed.  Not much can go wrong doing a pull-up.

When I do squats, I just use the bar 3 sets for 10 reps. Don't want muscles just tone

I have never witnessed or experienced puking after pullups. The leg-press on the other hand, have caused puking on several occasions ;-/
