Didn't he just say last week that we would be shocked by what his investigators were finding?   ::)

This clearly shows gibbs was lying too.  And how many fucking court cases did we have on this issue?   That wasn't a distraction?

I don't remember it being as much of a distraction two years ago but I could be wrong.  But that's not the issue really because GOP, McCain etc. Did their research and were satisfied that Obama was legit.

The Birthers wouldn't let it go and it gained massive attnetion with Trump.  The people here spinning this into Obama's fault is frankly pathetic.  And then acting as if he should have supplied the long form to prevent attention to the Birther issue is stupid too.  He provided a COLB.  Good enough and even more good enough for people who actually researched it a little like myself.

And then look at 33333 making a huge issue out of it.   For fuck sake, gas is 4$. Why haven't we been focusing on that?  Yet we have had idiots like Trump beating the Birther drum,  now the dumb ass ( trump) sounds like a cheap shade shoed politician on the level of Jesse Jackson.

I don't like Obama i am starting to hate him, but I don't like stupid arguments based on dumb shit even more.
LOL its been as big a deal now as it was 2 years ago...

look I dont care one way or the other b/c I never bought into it, but obama used this issue politically for two years then releases it b/c of mounting pressure and says "its become a distraction...we have more important things to deal with"

LMFAO nothings changed for two years but now its a distraction? NOW WE HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DEAL WITH?????

he should have released this shit 2 years ago to nip it in the bud instead of spending millions to try and keep it hidden.

It only was a distraction for obama since it was starting to work against him in the polls.  Had it been helping him in the polls, he never would have released this.

The Press Conference We Didn’t GetSome things the President doesn’t want to talk about.
by John Hayward
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=43187
04/27/2011

President Obama held a press conference to announce the release of his birth certificate today, falsely claiming that this was important because obsession with the birth certificate was preventing adequate news coverage of his position on important issues.  Here are some issues the President has not seen fit to hold a press conference to discuss:

The continuing collapse of his war in Libya.  The siege of Misrata, which Obama demanded must stop immediately in an editorial he published in concert with British and French leaders, continues unabated.  Obama has authorized $25 million in “non-lethal” assistance to a Libyan rebellion that appears to have non-lethality down to a science.

The brutal oppression of Syrian demonstrators, by a man the Obama Administration described as a “reformer” only a few weeks ago.  The dissidents remain defiant, issuing a statement that if the dictator Assad “does not wish to be recorded in history as a leader of this transition period” to democracy, Syrians must “move forward along the same path as did the Tunisians, Egyptians, and Libyans before them.”  They might want to reconsider following the Libyan path.

The worsening situation in Afghanistan, where an Afghan military pilot gunned down eight American soldiers and an American contractor today, and hundreds of captured Taliban fighters recently escaped in a bizarre prison break.  The Associated Press reports “It was the seventh time so far this year that members of the Afghan security forces, or insurgents impersonating them, have killed coalition soldiers or members of the Afghan security forces.”  Are we still on schedule to begin drawing down our forces in Afghanistan this summer?

The historic first-ever press conference held by the Federal Reserve, at which Fed chairman Ben Bernanke is expected to announce the end of Obama’s “Qualitative Easing” monetary policy.  This is an absolute vindication for critics such as Sarah Palin, who correctly pointed out the negative inflationary consequences of this policy at the time of its passage.   Not long ago, it was said that every word spoken by the Fed chairman could send earthquakes rumbling through the markets.  Now they’ll be holding more press conferences than the President does.

Skyrocketing gas prices, and the role of Administration policy in causing the problem.  We do not need any staged witch hunts for “price gouging” profiteers.  We need answers from Barack Obama, the man who caused this crisis as a matter of deliberate policy.  Why are offshore drilling projects a mortal threat to the Earth that must be stopped at all costs in American waters, but a noble bid for prosperity worthy of American subsidies in Brazil?  These policies should be listed, discussed, and defended before the American electorate.

The dire forecasts of Standard & Poor’s and the International Monetary Fund, which have predicted America could lose its AAA credit rating, and soon be surpassed as the world’s largest economy by China.  Obama should explain why he tried to suppress the Standard & Poor’s report.  If he had been successful, he would have deprived Americans of vitally needed information about the financial future of their country.

The Administration’s action against Boeing on behalf of labor unions, which former National Labor Relations Board chairman Peter Schaumber called “unprecedented.”  Why is this unprecedented action, to block Boeing from opening a non-union production line in South Carolina, being taken?  What freedoms do American corporations retain?  Which companies will be next to find the federal government is teaming up with unions to control their business decisions?  Schaumber told Fox News that if the union claim is upheld, “it could jeopardize any company with unionized workers that wants to expand in a right-to-work state.”  Do the people who live in right-to-work states have any say in this?

Instead, we got a press conference about the release of Obama’s birth certificate. If that distracted you from the above matters, or other important stories I haven’t listed, the White House thanks you for your cooperation.

another bitter guy

I'm not bitter at all. The release of the BC in April 2011 means Osama can't hide behind it anymore and use it as a tool to demonize any GOP candidate going into the election in 2012. He wasted his secret weapon on Donald Trump. The ship has sailed and now he can be exclusively attacked on his record. With the BC out of the way, it should be a piece of cake to focus on real issues and expose Osama as the slimeball that he is.

Uh huh. Obama and his circus clowns loved the BC issue because it provided them with a broad brush to paint everyone with. It was a great distraction and misdirection just as the Rev. Wright stuff was.

That's gone now.

UH OH.

you are right..you did beat me to the punch in terms of starting your thread first....but the victory is still so sweet....all these nitwits proven wrong....I can see the bitterness piling up now

Victory for what? First, it was the Clinton voters that started this mess. Second, Trump never claimed that Obama wasn't born here. He asked Obama to produce the certificate to put this issue to an end.

Third, as George Whorewell said, this is all about the lefties trying to paint all of Obama's potential opponents as birthers, when they fire legitimate criticism about him and his policies. Trump did us all a great service. He forced Obama to put this issue to bed 18 months before the election.

And, that means (after the month or two of residual silliness about this issue), the GOP can POUND Obama about his abysmally poor performance.

Crying racist and blaming Bush will not save Obama in 2012. But, it won't be for lack of trying by his liberal minions.

I don't think it was the same level of distraction simply because 2 years we didn't have a prominent household name calling Obama out.

Dems think that birthers are embarrassed because Obama released the BC.  It's actually the opposite, birthers couldn't be happier.  It's a victory for the country when more people are confident that our President is a legitimate citizen.

Why SHOULD he?

The short form met the legal requirement.

outside of that, it's nothing more than a bunch of hatin' ass' mofo's making some shit up, right?  Is he obligated to do something beyond what the law requires, just because someone doubts him?

No, he's not.  So he "should" have?  Nope.

Clearly I worded that wrong.
I was getting at, who the fuck cares about his goddamn BC when hes running the fucking country into the ground, and trying to cover it up, play the blame game, etc.

BUT, on the subject of the whole BC thing....
IMHO, a REAL leader would have put aside his personal rights and used the issue as a way to show the public that he is willing to sacrifice his privacy to gain the publics trust, and PROVE TO THEM beyond a SHADOW of a doubt that hes not only is legal to be in that office, but that he deserves it.

But he didnt. He used it as a way to POLARIZE the nation. He left it on the table and allowed it to sit there and cause turmoil and uncertaintly in HIS FELLOW CITIZENS, and used it to his advantage when the opportunity came up.  That is NOT the signs of a great leader. That is the sign of an arrogant, pretentious bastard who looks at HIS FELLOW CITIZENS with contempt.

And thats constantly what I see when I listen to him talk or see his speeches. A pretentious, arrogant asshat who wont listen to anyone but his own ideals.
He doesnt look at you and I like were his fellow contrymen. You can see that he puts himself above the citizens. I dont know exactly what he thinks of course, but youd be foolish to say he looks at the citizens like were capable of deciding what we want for the future of our nation.

And thats what pisses me off. He truely believes his idealistic vision is right and that the people are wrong and incapable of choosing our own direction for our country.
He is not a leader. He is an arrogant man who believes his ideals are more important than the wellbeing of his fellow citizens who VOTED HIM IN TO REPRESENT THEM. Not for him to try and impose his idealistic ideas on our nation, even in the face of economic ruin.

Lack of birth control shows how lost prez is
By JOHN PODHORETZ

Posted: 2:09 AM, April 28, 2011

It would be bad enough to compare the Obama White House to the New York Mets of today -- but right now, the Obama White House would be lucky to be merely that bad. What it resembles most closely is the fabled rookie team that went 40-120 in 1962, the gaggle about whom Casey Stengel famously cried, "Can't anybody here play this game?"

I'm not talking about the wisdom or lack thereof Obama has shown on the ludicrous issue of his long-form birth certificate. One can assume that for a long time, the White House thought the issue wasn't really a problem, or even that the obsession over it in certain quarters was actually helping the president.

Now, however, it thinks the issue is hurting Obama, so it's trying to bring the controversy to an end by doing something it clearly could've done anytime over the past three years.

But that isn't what made yesterday such a disaster. What invoked the 1962 Mets was the White House staging of the birth certificate's release.

Did no one in the White House spend five seconds making sure there were no other events going on yesterday morning -- like, oh, say, Donald Trump taking a trip to New Hampshire with reporters hungry to follow him?

Since Trump was right there in front of the media's microphones talking about the birth certificate before Obama got to microphones in the White House, we were subjected to the dumbfounding sight of the press room at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. standing empty as the president found himself forced to wait out a reality-TV performer and real-estate brand-name sleazing slanderous nonsense about him and his college grades through the airwaves.

Finally, Obama must've had enough and came out to speak anyway. Then he began by complaining about how, if he had come to talk about foreign policy, the networks wouldn't have given him the time.

True -- but the reason the networks went live with his comments about his own birth certificate was that he had lowered himself to Donald Trump's level.

He is the president of the United States, for God's sake. And yet he allowed himself to become a supporting player in someone else's reality-TV show by whining about how he could only get the time of day from the broadcast gods by talking about his birth certificate.

Even more astonishing, he stepped on his own major news of the day, which involved the choice of David Petraeus to head the CIA.

Petraeus is arguably the most admired man in America, and his selection is exactly the sort of thing that can make a president look good. What doesn't make a president look good is when he seems to be in a war of words with a man with hair the consistency of cotton candy who fires Gary Busey and Omarosa on television's lowest-ranked network.

This is another in a string of events and speeches and appearances in which Obama acts in ways that make him smaller, pettier and less consequential than the office he is occupying.

Forget Casey Stengel. Julie Taymor would have done less damage to Obama if she had put the president up on wires and sent him sailing through the air during "Spider-Man" before her firing.

Those who hope for Obama's re-election have good reason to be alarmed at the way the sure-footed political instincts he showed in 2008 have so profoundly deserted him in the course of his presidency. Because that might lead to his firing at the hands of the electorate.
