gillette razor blades. what a rip off

I like the gillette blades and seem to get at least a few months out of one and I shave 5x per week. I dry the blades as already mentioned.

You're right.

I've had good luck with the boar's hair, though.
Anything is better than the ones you can buy in the pharmacies.

If you have those kinds of problems, you may want to consider using a better prep.
While it's a few extra steps, it’s hard to beat the mug & cup system like seen above.

I use the shaving soap that comes in puck form.
Our Beauty/Barber supply place sells a mug with a recessed bottom that is a perfect fit for the soap.
The mug is also made of a vinyl or resin so it won’t break when you drop it.

Anyway, the hot lather and bristles soften, exfoliate, and stand those bristles away from the skin.
If you really want to get traditional, apply a towel soaked in hot water to your beard for a few minutes before shaving.
It can be a pain in the ass to do all this stuff - especially if it's new to you, but it does provide a much more comfortable shave with a lot less irritation, regardless of the blade you use.

rinsing with cold water helps me avoid irritation.

The two big differences among brushes are bristle stiffness and the amount of water they retain.
Badger is the softest and holds the most water.
Boar is bit stiffer, but I consider that a plus.
Boar also holds less water, but my brush design has very long bristles - much longer than often seen on shaving brushes, and I think that makes up for it.

but I only need to shave once every 3 days.  Beard is not very full.

qft ... you can even have a cup of rubbing alcohol and keep the blade in it that will prevent it from the water rusting dulling

this is one of the reasons why I switched to safety razors. Double-edged blades give a closer shave and cost about 50 cents each

I just went the same route..Got my Merkur DE Razor, Badger Brush, Straight Razor for my moustache and shaving cream. Do you prefer soap or cream? also why do regular straight razors cost so damn much?

I use both. I started off with cream when I began traditional wetshaving but wanted to try "super lather" so I got soap. The lather from mixing them is a combination of the two that feels amazing and protects your face much better. I don't know why straight razors cost a lot. Probably b/c the demand isn't high so the companies who produce them have to make money somehow
