I am really surprised to hear this coming from you. The ability to name another, or a bigger, villain does not justify or excuse Arnold’s behavior. Having an affair is one thing; we all know someone who has done that—we all probably have someone in our family who has done it, but Arnold did not just have an affair or a child out of wedlock. He had an affair with a domestic worker in his home right in the face of his wife and children! One of the first rules of nature is “don’t foul your own nest.” Arnold did that!

The woman had his child and was living in his house for ten years. The family knew the child, met the child, probably played with the child all the while he and the mother knew that he was the father. Imagine years of secret payments that his wife never knew about… This is a deep betrayal and certainly a mockery of marriage as most people define it.

Meanwhile this secret was tucked away as he angled to become governor knowing full well that the public would not smile on his candidacy if they knew the truth about his behavior. As HowDog said, if he is willing to live such an enormous lie to his family why would he have any qualms about lying to the public—about anything?

During the recall election when he ran for Governor, Arnold made a big show of the fact that he was not going to take a salary, but what he did not disclose was the fact that the day before he was sworn in, he inked a secret deal with AMI to promote their (bodybuilding) magazines and business interests--a deal that would guarantee him a minimum of a $1 million a year and usually much more! The truth of that secret deal only came to light when a nosy reporter combed through the SEC filings for AMI and found reference to an agreement with someone only identified as Mr. S. Under political pressure, Mr. S agreed to void the contract and sever his agreement with AMI, but he did not return monies already paid by AMI. I trust you are wise enough to connect the dots between these two episodes.

Has Arnold has a successful career? Sure, but success built on colossal lies and years of deception is not success. If it were then Bernie Madoff would be a national hero.

I understand mistakes, but this situation comes from his core character. We know he cheated before and boys will be boys but dude ate where he shits. No goood. Makes me only think what other character flaws he has like constant lying. Yeah he might be successful but I am sure when he is not successful on something he lies to keep up appearances.

This will be very difficult for Arnold to overcome, especially so with his family and that would include the child from this affair.

He is fucked. He may be Arnold, but unless he can convince his entire family to forgive him this very serious transgression against his entire family, he is fucked for life.

He can surround himself with beautiful women but without his family he will be a facade. I don't feel sorry for him, I do feel sorry for his family. His wife and all of his children. As previously stated here, character is much easier kept than recovered.

Some years ago on a trip to Los Angeles, I met a guy who was a sound man for Merv Griffin productions. He told me about how Merv taught Arnold about investing and that Arnold got his...errrr, aahh... seed money...from his appearances on the Merv Griffin show.
