How physically fit would you say you are?
« on: June 26, 2011, 01:20:17 PM »
Okay, so I was playing a competitive game of football/soccer the other day for the first time in about 10 years and boy did I suck. Not in terms of technical ability (I scored twice), but in terms of pure physical fitness.

I currently weigh 225 at 5'10 and all my physical activity for the last fifteen years or so has been spent in the gym lifting nothing but heavy weights - I've never really done that much cardio and even if I had, I'm not sure how much benefit would it have had. So anyway, I was completely gassed out after about five minutes and kept having to take breathers on the side line for several minutes at a time before rejoining the game - by the end of the game I was limping, my knees, hips, and thighs all killing me and couldn't even walk properly to my car afterwards, and I've been practically incapacitated until now.

I was pretty disgusted with myself and also at bodybuilding which prides itself on giving that illusion of super health but in reality the complete opposite is true (even without drugs) - the "activity" is a damn farce (yes, I already knew this to a great extent anyway so don't bother pointing that out).

So I was wondering - how many of you studs consider yourselves physically fit and able to perform continuous tasks that require agility, flexibility, and just general all-round fitness? What sort of things can you do? For example how far could you run without stopping?

yup I tried soccer a couple of years ago weighing 245 @ 6'3. gased out in 5 minutes tops. knees hurt after also.

I don't understand how heavy rugby and fotball players makes it without killing their knees.  ???

Pretty fit; I can run a 6-minute mile and I've played football ("soccer") all my life, so cardio isn't really a problem.

Weightlifting >>> all other forms of fitness.

football really fucks you up if you haven't played for a while and you've got a few years of sitting on your arse behind you. lifting is great, but lets be honest. their of little benefit if you want to be really physically fit

Over the last 8 years or so, I've stopped aggressively pursuing the size game that comes with bodybuilding. Instead, I've embarked upon following a well-proportioned regimen to weight lifting, dieting and other activities that increase my overall functional strengths and capabilities.

I ride a bike once week, do a lot of brisk walking, practice jujitsu and kickboxing and lift weights with guys that run college track.

Making these types of changes have allowed for my body to adjust to aging in a good way.  I hate it when coworkers in their late 40's and early 50's spend their entire day talking about lower back pain or that terrible cramp they developed as they were having sex with their wives....NOT GOOD

Give it a try, you might like it.

That's why you need to incorporate some functional lifts and cardio into your routine. You have to do cardio. What happens if you get into a scrap you want to gas in the first ten seconds ?

I could go against a whole team singlehandedly and would wipe them out.

Of course, only if we're talking about playing on the Xbox.

I have said this many times: being huge is inconsistent with the lifestyle I want to live. I am 6’2” and 216lbs today.  I would not complain if blew up to 225-230, but I am basically the size I want to be so I can play tennis, bike, swim, etc. with reasonable endurance.  Huge muscles are fun to look at and play with, but I do not want to live in one of those bodies.  I have often thought Bill Davey has the ideal physique, but the truth is he is probably bigger and heavier than a very active lifestyle would allow.

.

That man does indeed have a beautiful physique that by all standards would seem to be capable of holding up under most circumstances.  Be it that of a black-tie affair, a day at the beach, a casual walk in the park or even that of a romantic date with a mild-mannered stud, that build would hold its own.

The questions that beg to be answered are... How tall is he? & How much does he weigh?

Height:  6'0"
Off Season Weight:  225 to 230 lbs.
Competition Weight:  215 lbs.

There is a huge difference between a "look at me" physique of a bodybuilder and a physique based on real athleticism--an olympic gymnast for example.  As attractive as his body is, Bill's physique is still the former.
