Not when it comes to anyone currently running for president, or the man currently in the White House.  They all have conversations with God.  They all seek guidance from the "Holy Spirit."  I gave you numerous examples of Obama asking God and the Holy Spirit to tell him what to do.  There is no difference between what Obama has claimed to believe and what Bachmann has said about her faith.

The pope stuff doesn't involve anything that Bachmann said, but as McWay pointed out, that isn't a new or novel belief.  Numerous protestant churches have taught the same thing.

Guidance from the holy spirit and having a conversation with god over who to marry whilst you first meet them and then preaching about it to a group in a church is far and away 2 different things.

As I said elsewhere, show me Clinton, Bush Sr. or Reagan, all of whom I voted for standing up in a church preffing to having conversations with god and god tellng them to go into acting, marry that person, or Get degree in whatever and then I will rejoice my vote for them.

Bush2 didn't consult his sec of defense before making the decision to invade iraq.

he did, however, talk to God about it.

There is no difference Ozmo.  In both instances, the person is asking the invisible man in the sky to help them make decisions.

I don't know if there are examples of any other president giving "testimonies" in church, but that's the place it should be done.  I'd much rather see a candidate preach about their faith in church as opposed to the campaign trail.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying you have more trouble over the fact she talked about her faith in a church as opposed to some secular venue?  I don't really understand that.

Inspiration and guidance through prayer is a different thing to me than having a conversation and getting answers in such things as "go marry this guy you just met"

I have trouble with someone who would give testimony in church the way she did.  It spoke more of vanity than anything else to me.  It also was troubling that she believes that she's having conversations with God on such subjects.  I wouldn't vote for her because of it, but don't mistake that for me thinking its wrong.  I don't.  However, i do think it potentially leads to self righteousness and the arrogance of believing you are on some sort of ordained mission from god.

I've learned as i am sure you have that what's said on the campaign trail shouldn't always be taken so seriously.  So when a politician talks about inspirational guidance, i don't really listen too much because most of them are in the say anything mode.

Anyone voting on anything other than the economy in 2012 is a fucking moron not worthy or deserving of a vote.

Inspiration and guidance through prayer is what Bachmann did/does.  It's like the Ron Paul statement I posted (either in this thread or another one) where he said he seeks God's/the Holy Spirit's guidance in everything he does.  Hillary said the same thing.  If you step back and compare what they have said, it's exactly the same.  But I think we'll have to agree to disagree in that regard.

You think her comments show vanity?  They actually show humility IMO.  What she was saying is she wasn't going to do solely what she wanted, but wanted to follow God's plan for her.  That's the antithesis of vanity or selfishness.  It's classic Christian-speak.  I think that's largely why this doesn't bother me.  That's how Christians talk, especially in church.

I do agree with you that you have to take whatever most of these politicians says with a gain of salt.  I like Bachmann, but I'm not for an instant saying she isn't like most politicians who say what they need to say to get elected.  The only difference here is she engaged in church-speak, in a church, most likely after being invited to do so.

Like i have said over and over, show me where those people did the same thing MB did.  Show them in a church preaching about how they talked with God and God told them who to marry or something similar.

If she was showing humility she would have kept her experiences private or more on a one on one matter for a purpose of counsel.  Instead she made a vane spectacle of it on multiple occasions.
