but your were to buy the parts today, minus the screen, it is probably the price of a faster 27 inch imac.

It's no big deal... I work for a videogame company... RAM at work is as easy as to come by as electricity.

I just switched from windows to MacBook air. Duo core 1.6ghz processor

Unless you're running heavy photo/audio/video editing shit or heavy gamer then you can run a crappy acer netbook for $250 & browse the Internet & web based applications all day.

Gotcha, I thought you were just an average Joe user. Do you really see that much of a performance increase? I know when I went from 6 to 12 I didn't notice that much. All depends on the processor though.

Depends on what I'm messing with... If I'm doing big compiles, I do notice the difference. Most of my day to day stuff, hell no.

My Windows install uses it much less than my Linux install too... Windows 7 sees it, but I think it's just for show... I can compile the same code in windows and Linux and the Linux machine will faster.

It shouldn't but it does... not by some HUGE amount, but it is noticeable.

Nothing special - bought this PC back in 2007 and have upgraded the memory and graphics since - it still plays pretty much everything on the market though so I'll probably think of changing it in about another year or two.

2.6 ghz quad core amd phenom
4g ram
1 g graphics.

works for whatever stuff i use it for and as long as it does i feel no need to upgrade. the mother board supports quite higher upgrades so when i need i'll just get a new processor, 4 gig more ram and bridge another 1 g graphics card. will be cheap as shit when the next gen processors and graphics cards commes out.
