Foxconn to replace workers with 1 million robots in 3 years SHENZHEN, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Taiwanese technology giant Foxconn will replace some of its workers with 1 million robots in three years to cut rising labor expenses and improve efficiency, said Terry Gou, founder and chairman of the company, late Friday.
The robots will be used to do simple and routine work such as spraying, welding and assembling which are now mainly conducted by workers, said Gou at a workers' dance party Friday night.
The company currently has 10,000 robots and the number will be increased to 300,000 next year and 1 million in three years, according to Gou.
Foxconn, the world's largest maker of computer components which assembles products for Apple, Sony and Nokia, is in the spotlight after a string of suicides of workers at its massive Chinese plants, which some blamed on tough working conditions.
The company currently employs 1.2 million people, with about 1 million of them based on the Chinese mainland. http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/china/2011-07/30/c_131018764.htm

It will be interesting to see what systems we have in the future, who will work if robots start doing everything? Will there be enough jobs? What macroeconomic effects will the introduction of robots give?

I had the luxury of being in Shenzhen early this year touring the Foxconn complex. There are huge nets on every building there to catch the folks that jump out of the windows trying to commit suicide.

Wow , why is it such a big problem there? Are the working conditions that bad?

eventually there will be only robots left of us, and that will be the humans.
maybe we are simply destined to become a silicon based AI life form , just part of evolution of advanced enough species.

In the future we will all have our own robots that go out and work and earn money for us, freeing up our time so that we can post on getbig all day.

Depends on where you live. There are still "lands of opportunity" where almost anyone can turn himself a millionaire even overnight...
