As Ready, Set GO! Synergy Fitness reported, it takes at least 8 seconds of high-intensity to typically reach lactic acid (a mission critical HGH release benchmark).

Thanks for the article. I’ve taken some interest in the effects of lactate levels on human growth hormone.

Romanian exercise scientist Halarambie discovered that the lactic acid pathway is (subjectively) more effective for fat loss than the commonly accepted aerobic pathway. Apparently, elevated blood lactic levels decrease blood pH levels, which triggers the release of growth hormone in the adeno.

Coincidentally, some S&C coaches now devise weightlifting programs designed specifically to induce lactic acid production for the sole purpose of hGH release.
This strategy often involves the athlete performing sets of big, compound movements with very little rest between sets, which will condition the athlete by building their lactate capacity (among other things), as well as burn off fat, which hGH is very good at doing.

Charles Poliquin wrote an entire book (surprise!) on the idea. He’s also mentioned it in some of his online articles.
Just Google “German Body Composition” if interested.
