Got me some property....one step closer to getting off the grid
« on: September 13, 2011, 06:17:07 AM »
Found some property for really cheap, verizon signal picks up nicely.  Area would need to be cleared and a water well drilled but it will be well worth for the price.  2 more years and I'll have freedom from the government and the utility companies.... ;D

What type of freedom do you speak of Vincenzo?

Won't you still have to pay Federal Income Tax?

Damn right.  I've been planning it for a while now but I want to do it in comfort.  I've planned just about everything from the power system to the wiring and the homestead design itself.  Rather than waiting for the economy to go to shit, I'm taking it upon myself to cover my ass.

Of course since I'll still run my business but ultimately I intend on getting out of the rat race and have my own private spot in the world

Vince you're a semi smart guy but seriously come on ... there is no such thing as your own place, you either loose "your" place to the government if the SHTF or to some clan rally.

Cool Idea Vince. I've been reading a lot about that lately. I wish I had the money to get some of the things I want.

Check out this board there's a lot of cool info

There's thousands of acres of undeveloped land all around the U.S that's available for as little as 200 bucks an acre.  Property taxes would only be about 6 dollars a year and they won't even bother collecting that.  As far as the Klan is concerned, they are a very small group and they are more focused on hispanics and jews.  Besides, they would likely respect a black person who isn't dependent on the government

Even if these undeveloped places, there's still a community of like minded folks and as long as you do your thing, everyone is pretty much left alone.

That's right, which is why I'm doing what I can to cover myself.  Even if SHTF never happens, I can enjoy the peace and sanctity of an isolated area...away from crime, smog, assholes running around, etc along with being able to retire without being in debt.

I would only need to go back to town once every 2-3 months for food and provisions such as propane which is what I intend on using to run my heating, refrigeration, and hot water...likely even much longer as I'll be doing a lot of gardening and hunting.  The rest of the homestead will be powered by combination wind, compost methane and solar power system. and should either of those fail, I have designed an direct inverter option to use a generator or even my truck to power the house while I fix whatever is wrong although everything will be under wireless computer control from a laptop so I'll know whether something is wrong or not.

Of course, even with being out there I'll still have every comforts of home with an LCD flat screen TV, PS3, etc because I'll be generating plenty of power to run everything.  I don't intend on living like some fucking hobbit or hippie.  I'm simply combining modern technology with the old days to have a simplistic or fulfilling life.  Human beings weren't meant to spend their lives working themselves to the bone at some shit job to survive, lose their houses, or drive through traffic.  They didn't do that shit 130 years ago.

You get your own property, put together your home, generate your own power and water, and no-one can fuck with you.  You'll have your freedom

Good for you man. Ive been looking for 20-50 acres out in south west Va or rural carolina for a few years now.  I plan on doing something similar, only having it as a second place, unless the revolution comes.

I would check in Woodruff, NC for land.  I believe you can pick up some acres for about 3500 bucks.  Really rural area but quiet.

Good luck Vince. I share your same sentiment regarding what our lives should really be about and working until we are too old to enjoy our lives is not what life is about.

If you're getting "off the grid", or getting out of the "rat race", why would you care if your Verizon signal is good?

Isn't cell service a utility?

I still have a business to run but you still need phone service in case of an emergency or to call friends and family.  Like I said, I'm not going to become some hobbit or something like that....just want to get away from shit

Onlyme would yap at any thread or post that I write....and I would tear into his weight and gambling issues as usual so it really doesn't matter.  He's long gone and hopefully in peace.

Seriously Vince good luck sounds like a great idea. But why use propane heat?  Why not a wood stove?
