King Kamali - did a good job on the commentary at the O
« on: September 20, 2011, 02:12:50 PM »
I've dogged the dude in the past for his internet rants and onstage appearance but as for his commentary during the MR. Olympia I thought he was pretty good.

I heard he had 12 spotters helping him complete the partial commentary.

Agreed, he won me over to the side of "liking him as a person".

In my own opinion -

King was perhaps a little TOO subdued in his commentary. But that's good.  Room to grow.  You aren't going to find 5 names in the history of the sport that will attract more 25-35 year old BBing fans than King Kamali.

It was better for him to be a tad quiet on the webcast, than to be jumping up and down talking over everyone.  King and I used to hate each other, and then worked together, and what I can say is that he's very cool and relaxed lately.  Maybe having a baby settled him down (just like it did for me around the same time period).

But yeah, King's not a dick.  he's a good sport and has a sense of humor and is just like the rest of us, out there trying to make that dollar.  I think he has a pretty good future as an MC to be honest. Work on a few little things, but really - his name as the emcee on a show will get more asses on the seats for an NPC local show than will with 170 pound twits in posing trunks.

To me - the thing that rings king preferable to some of the others...

is that while king was a WWF kind of personality, larger than life (and louder)...

He never engaged in some of those "aw, really?" moments like inventing ninjas, sending family member to hail for drugs, or lying about site injection and blaming biceps tears.

Once a guy does that, it's more memorable than anything he did on stage.  I mean "I disarmed two guys dressed as ninjas with handguns and kicked their asses".... that will alsways come before any physique analysis.

Yeah he was good - didn't add anything to the commentary unless he thought it was going to add to the presentation.

Yes, all reports is that he did a great job in commentating.  And was pretty mellow backstage.
