I've found that drugs is the key to progress in weightlifting. Drugs. As long as you perform exercises with adequate drugs to stimulate the muscle, with good drugs, eat enough calories for your goals, and dose properly you will make gains. At least this is my experience. Fancy exercises, seated this standing that, intricate programs, it's all garbage. Drugs will pay off in the end. Unfortunately, most people are too impatient and fail. They give up when they perceive their gains have halted. Big mistake. After twenty years lifting it's obvious to me that the human body is reluctant to adapt to change beyond a point. The changes do come albeit slower. The slower part is where most get frustrated and give up. A lot of people ask me for advice in my gym, and the thing I emphasize the most to them is to stay on drugs.

Fixed for mesmorph, the lying bastard.

It's a great exercise, I used to do them a lot. But here's a question for everyone, and think about this and I'm not trying to be a dick.

Do you REALLY think there is such thing as an exercise..for the biceps as an example that ONLY hit's one muscle be it the inner or outer? There might be a particular exercise that may isolate the entire bicep but you CANNOT isolate an inner or outer part of that bicep. Same with preachers...there is NO "lower" bicep.

What the hell are seated barbell curls...I can't imagine they can be done except when you got dwarf arms....

I remember Loui did them, but I can't find that pic.
IMO not a smart exercise, since you can't perform a full ROM.

I've recently thrown them in the mix that's why I asked... I don't thing any curl exclusively hits one head
I'm wondering if it hits the inner head more than the other heads as I can't see how the mechanics of the excesses would... Just seeing if others have had success with it really?

wide grip bb curls hits the short head of the bicep

vice versa close grip hits the long head

edit: someone already said it

With dumbbells you hit the short head better when supinating.

"Isolation" isn't a word that should be associated with muscles. They all work in synergy (together) ~ Yeah, you can put more emphasis on one muscle than another, but there is never a time when ONLY one muscle is working.... EVER!

Muscles that are formed in groups (triceps, biceps, chest, quads, calves, forearms, delts, abs, back) are prime examples of muscles that cannot possibly be *isolated*.

This is a very loose term when it comes to bodybuilding and anatomy.

Looks like a waste of time imo.

I agree. Im just trying to understand how this can put any more stress on your muscle than going full ROM!

Hits the inner head if you supinate.

Hits the outer head if you do more of a hammer grip.

Yep, and that is why they are "good"---especially at the end of a biceps workout---due to you sitting on the bench, you have no real way of cheating that bar up---unless you do a funky shrug-curl movement.
Also due to sitting on the bench, you can only do the 1st half of the rep---like doing 21s.

Exactly no excersise is completely useless
So far messing with these I've seen a slight different
Will try them wide grip on Friday

One of the best exercises you can do for biceps, stops you from cheating by swinging the weight up with the hips on the first part of the movement. It was one of Sergios favourites.

No, never seated.  Not that I don't like them.. just never really tried them.  I do like 21's at the end of a workout.. and that includes the top half of the movement.

I find the best exercise overall for biceps is a seated one-arm db curl on a preacher bench..  However, don't straddle the bench seat.  Sit with both of your legs facing the same way so that the side of your body is against the preacher.  Hard to describe.

Standing seated barbell curls are the shit, build much more biceps than not-standing EZ-Bar-supinated-Preacher-TUT-negatively-positive-Godzilla-curls.  ::) ::) ::)
